Bought a 15-2 a few weeks ago and shot it for the first time yesterday. Would have been sooner but couldn't find ammo for it. As it was, I had to settle for a single box of .38's. I love this gun already. It was manufactured in the mid to late '70's but from the look of it, hadn't been shot very much. I like to take the cylinder out when cleaning my revolvers. With my S&W's it's a simple matter of removing a retention screw and pulling the crane/cylinder assembly out. Is there an easy way to do this operation on the DW?

great graphic Ron. I actually use a chuck instead of vice grips.

To the paranoid people who check behind shower curtains for murderers:

if you find one...what's your plan?

Thanks for the graphic and the idea for a chuck instead of the vice grip. From the graphic, I should be turning the cylinder counter clockwise relative to the vice grip. In other words, a normal right handed thread on the ejection rod. In this way, I get the cylinder, spring cap, spring and star disassembled in one operation. This is my first experience with a DW revolver and don't want to muck it up.

I'll add one more pointer.

The cylinder stop is located on the side plate. To get the cylinder off the crane once you have the ejector rod removed, you must first remove the side plate. Remove the grip, remove the two allen screws for the side plate, remove the plate. Then the cylinder will slide freely from the crane.

Of course, since you now have the side plate off, you may as well give some of those other little metal pieces some attention & lubrication.wink

A- counterclockwise

B-- make sure you have empty cases in cylinders to support the star

C-- you can put a LOT of pressure on with this chuck in your hand--don't overdue it or you will break something (this applies to tightening it back up also.)
