This Allen head screw was in the box with the gun I just purchased https://www.danwessonforum.com/forum/revolvers/14-2-id/

The DW tool Allen wrench fits the screw…any idea what it goes to?

thanks

jack

That is why your gun is inoperative. Put it in, don't over tighten. Snug is good.

Isn't that the location of the cross-pin for the firing pin?

I don't recall a screw there?

I'm thinking side-plate screw too? Normally hidden under the grip on the Left hand side.

My bad. I am dyslexic a bit. I wasn't holding my hand over my heart. LEFT SIDE of course. 🙄

the gun is working fine, the screw was just lose in the box

the comments about going in the side plate on left side was the clue i needed

the screw there now is a common not allen screw. Took at the common screw, it is a little longer than the allen head screw.

Replaced with the allen screw…all working well

strange why the common head screw was in the gun

thanks for the help

The former owner didn't realize the screw was in the box and substituted the longer wrong screw. screwy. Anyone who needs a sideplate screw should PM me. I have a number of them. This offer is for a limited time of 6 months. 😏

Thanks

One of my 15-2's had a phillips screw in the top sideplate hole. I didn't notice it when I looked over the pics on GB. No big deal, I have a bunch of parts, including about 20 of the stock screws. I'm assumming that the previous owner had the screw and ground it off until it was short enough. This is the gun today:
