Here's something I've been wondering about for a while. On the first 15-2 I bought, the rear sight notch was outlined with white paint. On my second one, there is no white paint. The gentleman I bought that one from rarely shot it, so I know the white paint didn't come off through use. Was this outline (or lack of outline) an option from the factory?
I like the white outline and would like to add it to my second DW. If that's not DW sacrilege, do you guys have any advice on how to proceed?

I have one model 15, that the white outline was very worn. I painted it with white fingernail polish which is readily available if you have daughters, as I do. I masked it with painters tape to keep crisp lines.

I looked back through the brochures/spec sheets in the archives, the earlier 15-2 info specifically calls out rear sight white outline, later ones do not. The later guns may have the white outline, but not necessarily as a standard spec item, I think. On the other hand, I have swapped sights around so much, and installed some Millets, so I don't really know for sure what came with what anymore.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I am with Steve on this one! Some have it some don't! I think you would be fine in painting them if you want them!

From what I have noticed, Steve & Blacktop are both right. Going through my pic stash, the early 15-2's with pinned front sights, seem to have a non outline rear sight with an allen screw to adjust windage.
I think (and mind you, this is my speculation) that the millet outline sights came onto the scene about the same time they switched to interchangeable front sights. I'm not sure if those were used all the way through, or if they switched back to the non-outline style sometime in the last couple years at Monson.
I haven't made it a point yet to examine the various Palmer guns, as far as rear sights go, but the two I have are both the non-outline type. Although these have a slotted screw for windage, not an allen like the Monson type. Here is a quickie pic of one of my Palmer guns.
