I picked up a 1978 15-2 that looks like it has been fired very little. No paperwork or anything with it. Cylinder gap measures at only .002. I can see light through the gap at every chamber, but the crane is a little hard to unlatch, and the gauge enters easier on the side opposite the latch. Is this just a symptom of the overly tight barrel? I ordered a wrench tonight so I can set it up properly, but I was just wondering.
Thanks,
Nick

The cylinder ball is probably on the tight side. When you do the Ave Joe make sure you clean that and adjust the screw to be flush even. Unless there is corrosion or crude on the crane, most of the normal required force to open and close the cylinder is from the tension ball
If the latch itself is stiff....clean, disassemble, polish, and lube. Make sure the retaining set screw is not in too far. Make sure the groove on the frame is totally clean. It can pack with powder residue
Good Luck

. 002 works if it is on all chambers, until you start shooting. The small frame cylinder will expand when hot and residue will deposit on the cylinder face. Wipe the cylinder face with a rag every few cylinder loads or better yet, use. 003 or. 004. And take the barrel tool with you every trip to the range. Keep the 2cd and third fingers of your left hand pushed through the frame and against the cylinder to keep it from closing as you eject cases. The cylinder will close when the rachet is extended and scratch the sideplate. Almost all used Dans have the scratches.

Basic, and VERY smart info from a long time valued Member, and a guy that knows Dan Wesson revolvers.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
