anyway not new to guns but new to DW....so my concerns are
1. the gun came in a paperboard-like box....brown cover with the other half white...it has a DW label on one long end.... with the gun SN on it and is circled for the 4" barrel....not sure if these were factory
2. I am guessing that the first 15-2's didn't have the inserts for the front sights so about when did they change
THANKS for any help....
Al
if pics are to big please let me know....will try and figure out how to reduce....
note: does anyone know what the sticker/label on the left side is... NP41231....not sure if inventory number or distributor number....also are these grips often encountered....I will scan the paperwork that came with it next week...then post if you would like
I just love the looks and feel of this great classic
Thanks again for the input

Welcome to the forum, and the wonderful world of Dan Wesson ownership.
The box you describe sounds like the factory box that the older models came in. So since your 15-2 dates to 1975 which makes it an early 15-2 I am sure the box is correct, particularly with the end label still attached. Later they switched to a styrofoam box with cardboard sleeve.
The early 15-2s did have pinned front sights with no insert, I am not sure if anybody can say for certain when they switched, but I would guess in around 1976. Most 15-2s that you run across have the interchangeable front sight retained by a set screw.
Looking forward to your

My 1976 15-2 came in that same box, and had the interchangeable front sight. The original barrel tool was probably a two piece item with a hex head two prong "spud" and a flat handle with a hex cutout to use the spud.
Do yourself a big favor and don't use it, too easy to slip and start to damage the barrel nut. Within the first year I had mine it went back to the factory for warranty service to remove a rounded barrel nut.
EWK wrench is by far the wrench of choice.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Yes, that would be considered the owners manual.
The box is original & the yellow sticker on the left was probably put on by the original gun shop for their system of inventory. The grips appear to be "Powerwood" grips, which are actually plastic & often a person can't tell until they are removed & you look inside.
If you plan on shooting it, do yourself a favor & take apart and give it a good scrubbing & lube job. After all these years, the original lube in there has likely turned into granite.
You found a remarkable early 15-2 there, congrats on your find & thanks for sharing your

Very nice...BUT, if you can remember the SN of any metal object in the house, that means The Equation is not fulfilled yet > What-I-Need = What-I-Have +1
I remember my firsts that speak to me. I didn't have the large collection of firearms as I do now. My first dcm garand 456868 picked up in 92' memorized as I had it long since the second cmp gun 2000 or so. It was a very exciting gun to me back then so I unconsciously learned the serial. Though my first C@R predating the m1 was a Winchester 1917, I still have it but it didn't interest enough to learn the serial. I own 4 m1's nowadays 1 1896 krag 2 1917's 3 1903's 1 1903a3 and 3 m1 carbines. My first 357 was the dan in the post. I remember the first 2 of its serial as through research I found it early many years ago it also held a bright spot in it spoke to me. Had to look at the gun to see how close to op's number. I had it a long time. I own 2 dans 357 nowadays. The posted gun and a 4 inch 78 thousand serial. It speaks to me also. I have a very very large collection logged in a book nowadays. jp
