I have put together a 22 barrel collection (2 -2",1-4",1-6" and 2-8') for my DW 22---most of the barrel tubes are 22lr and I have a 22 mag cylinder for the gun
Now based on my previous 22lr/22mag weapons I have I found public opinion split about 50-50 on whether or not you can shoot 22 mg thru a 22lr barrel,So my question for this forum is--can you shoot 22mag thru a 22lr barrel with no adverse effects
I have asked Shawn(the new parts guy) at DW if they have 22 mag tubes for sale and he said yes but before I invest in them (I have serious reservations about buying from DW--they don't seem to be very informed or professional- and I'm afraid of getting the wrong part from these bozos),I've also asked Erik at EWK if he can get mag tubes and am waiting for him to respond,I rather buy from him ,I have more confidence in Erik than DW.
So--What say you all?

Sent my DW 22 lr revolver to the Norwich plant for a 22 magnum conversion. I had the same question for the gunsmith. He said to go ahead and shoot the 22 lr barrel. There is only a .002 difference. Below is a pic of my gun, with an unfluted 22 mag cylinder and original factory 22 lr barrel.
I am not an expert but, I have been looking at .22 mag revolvers for a while. And have purchased two. Both brands and many others make interchangable cylinders using the same ( of course they are not dans and have fixed barrels.) barrel. High Standard made several models. I have a Sentinel mk iv. Mine has only a .22 mag. cylinder but they make one with both called a Camp Gun. They make western style DA/SA guns with two cylinders as does H+R/NEF, Ruger, Taurus, and others. I have read nothing about accuracy problems with one round or another. I would shoot jacketed .22 mag though as forcing the mag through a .22 lr barrel could lead to leading. However, with a dan, you can scrub the heck out of the barrel tube easily. One day I will have a .22 mag dan but both my H.S. mk iv 4" and my NEF Ultra Mag are very nice. Especially the $ 175 NEF. I have a special fondness for nice guns that cost me under $ 200.

.22 LR is .222 and .22 Win Magnum is .224.
With soft lead, it's no problem to squeeze the magnum down to .222 and you will not experience leading problems. Shooting a .222 projectile in a barrel with a .224 groove diameter will produce accuracy and (possible) issues with leading if you don't get obturation and/or don't have good lube.

Here's a good read on the subject of cast bullets and obturation.

That was a good read. Thanks Ron.
A local commercial caster lists his bullets at a hardness between 18-20.
In talking with a well know reloading shop in the area, the owner was telling me those bullets were too soft when I asked if they had any experience with them????? I found it odd but didn't question why they thought that.
