They make a funny pop noise when they go off and leave the cases a little bulged out.
One day I was at the range and the guys gun next to me just didn't sound right... I finally went over and picked up a piece of his brass to see what he was shooting. It was a 9mm case, but it was horribly stretched out. I asked to see his gun for a moment.... It was a .40 S&W. I've seen the same thing happen with guys accidentally dropping .380 rounds in the 9mm. They will go off, but usually leave a bullet in the barrel.

I have a slew of Single sixes ... in fact I have a few for sale at the moment. As far as the 22lr/22 mag barrel goes- on a DW I DOUBT there is a difference. The rugers are actually set up for the magnum bullets, which is why they are so deadly accurate with the mag cylinder installed. They shoot good with LR, but not near as accuate as the MAG.

I thought the barrels were the same, but there is a difference in case thickness and cylinder. Look at the Ruger Bearcats they come with two cylinders.
You find a Bearcat with the magnum cylinder you better snatch it up !!! Ruger only made for them(magnum) for one year I believe. They had problems with the magnum recoil and had a recall.
