Tried to take better pics of " Hon-E-Pi" my new to me Dan, as you will see my prospects as a photographer are zero. Last pic is with "Little Al" a S&W 34-1 22LR. When I take the side plate off the hand keeps popping up/off makes it hard to get back on, seems to go on easier if cocked, any suggestions?

thanks, Jody
I tried to remove the front sight, took the set screw all way out but couldn't get the sight off does the drift pin need to be removed? I thought just the set screw. Does it pull out a certain way?
Blacktop it's in the groove, when the side plate is taken off it pops up and forward at the top if that makes sense. The first time I took the side plate it didn't do this! I've studied all the online pics I can find and everything else seems to be correct. if I can figure out how to take decent close up pics with this stupid camera I'll post a shot
Thanks
Rick

Blacktop
Thanks, got the sight off, took a wood dowel laid along the top of barrel behind sight blade and gave it a light tap and came right off, just wasn't sure which way it came off. Now back to seeing what's up with the hand
Thanks

It's odd that the hand wants to pop off when it's not cocked. My guess is that the end of the spring is slipping from it's "slide" & down onto the pin that holds the hand, pushing the hand outward? Cocking the gun will put tension at the top of the hand & would hold the bottom more firmly.
I guess if the gun is happy holding itself together while cocked, don't make it try to change it's mind. Just cock the hammer & slap the side plate back on, no biggie.
BTW, for close-up shots, use good lighting (with a flash on some shots) & set your camera to the "macro" setting…the little flower. That's for focusing on subjects that are 18" or closer.

Charger Fan,
Thanks for the tip on using macro
Doesn't look like the spring is coming off the ledge
This is what it looks like after pulling the side plate, the hand rides up onto the post behind the cylinder, I think the spring maybe bent in some way or maybe just tired, have not taken the spring out yet will do that today. I've ordered a new hand spring and parts kit, from EWK of course, when they arrive i'm going to replace them all.
Thanks Again,
Rick

I've found that there are 2 versions of hand springs--the "short leg" and the "normal leg"...
If you hand spring wants to pop out a little, you have the short leg one. No big deal, it works fine, just a little harder to assemble.
The long leg allows the hand to sit flat in its location. We are only talking a few thousandths difference here, but it is noticeable after you've been in a few small frames

Thanks Shoot, it's the hand spring, did your Average Joe tune up it worked fantastic by the way. Anyway with all the tension off the trigger return spring the hand kept popping up, I'll try the EWK spring when it arrives. Getting the side plate on like this is a PITA.
By the way I invented a tool for depressing the main spring and guide, the narrow end fits over the narrow end of the guide, works better than a dowel. After the patent is approved they will be for sale @ $5.95 each.
Darn I just realized I think everyone already has one!!!!
Thanks,
Rick

Nice tool. Is that a Bic, or a Staples generic? Medium or Fine point? Also, if mine was originally a red pen, will that work too?
Gotcha!
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
