Eric - when will production begin! Are you doing the bluing too or maybe Mark Waldo at Blue Rridge?

I bet our fellow forum member would be up to doing the bluing service.DWF Sign

I am not educated enough to choose between the two, but what I do need is a 4" stainless barrel and shroud for my "country carry" wesson.

My Dan's

715 plus two barrels
44 pistol pack in transit

You did a great job on that, once it is quoted, the pic gets really big and the detail on the slots look very good! I'm impressed, takes some brass ones to take a nice SS shroud and let Mr. B. do it's thing to it. occasion

I'm back here…not working for the moment, lol! I have been trying to work so that's explains my lack of posting. lol2

Well, the past couple of days have been pretty discouraging, the rifling machine has ran into problems with setting up the control, and its got to the point where I think I need to bring in someone to help get it going. Still searching for someone, one guy that works on these controls, when I mentioned what I want to do I, never heard back from 'em. Must of ran off screaming in the night!

Then did you guys see the 8″ .44 shroud on ebay that sold? Looks like someone is making 'em, and it sold for around $52….IMO, I don't know if I'll be able to make them for that when you consider all the factors of buying the material, milling, slotting, gun drilling, polishing, proper blued finish, etc. Its hard to compete with Chinese stuff, or the cases where someone is doing them "on the side" at work, both of which I'm thinking might be the case there.

So as Palo mentioned, it is such a nice thought to have something where you can make money, but sometimes it just that, a thought. Smile

Don't worry guys, I'll keep at it, I'm afraid I'm too far deep in now to stop…lol2 and "they" haven't made the really cool shrouds and barrels "yet", hopefully we can at least get enough made and sold soon enough to at least cover all this money that's being spent. 🙂

The concept of the shroud on ebay is a good one but for a specific function of attaching a scope only. Duracoat shroud with ss or blued frame = Yell for anything else.

Eric, I don't think anyone here expects you to do shrouds for $50, get the control on the rifling machine fixed and don't get discouraged !

The rest of you guys agree don't you?  GoodLuck

I love the math, 2+2, Smile.

I remember one of my customers that I do contract machining work for, he ran into the same thing, guy was doing the work at his day job and undercutting 'em....and from what I understand, the work wasn't limited to lunch time and breaks, since he was a higher up...Talk about the ultimate in low overhead, not only do you get free materials and machine time, but you also get paid to work on your stuff!

Thanks for the encouraging words palo!!! Very true, us hard core DW guys want the real deal when it comes to the finish! Big Grin

The picture of that shroud is a little small.  It is difficult to be sure, but it looks like a regular Dan Wesson shroud that someone had Duracoated.  If you look closely, you can just make out where is still has the .44 Magnum Ctg. roll mark.

If I had to guess, the shroud had a bad finish (rust) and Duracoat was the the only answer.

I agree with Wayne, that shroud must be new/old with a coating. And there is still a large margin between $50 and what CZ/DW is getting, not to mention the custom possibilities. Keep it up EWK we are behind you.

I'm in agreement with Wayne and LB I think it's a factory DW shroud that someone has applied a finish to (poorly in my opinion).

I was hoping to get 2 shrouds for the price of one at $19.95!  Big Grin

Seriously like the the others I was not expecting a custom shroud in the $50 neighborhood.

Here is what CZ currently has the small frame shrouds listed at:

2.5 - $115

4" - $170

6" - $214

8" - $261

10" - $307

I'm with these guys, that shroud looks to me to be a Palmer shroud, judging from the roll marks. In fact…I'll let you guys know for sure when it gets to my house.DWAS

If it looks decent enough, I'm planning on sending it to Hot Bluer for a proper finish. If it looks terrible, well, I have a nice paper weight.lol2

Sorry it took so long to post these--forgot I had them.  357SM barrels, before and after polishing.  Hard to photograph inside in bad light, but you get the idea.
