Hello All-

Just joined up the other day and in "New Member" forum I said I'd provide photos of an incomplete 357 Pistol Pac I took as payment of a debt some years ago. The black case is beat up and has pretty heavily stained blue foam inserts. The revolver and barrels are in good shape with some chips in the finish. It looks better in person than it does in most of the photos. Unfortunately the former owner etched his SSN and initials on the bottom of the trigger guard. Serial # is B00142X. I know I am missing the belt buckle, feeler gauge and 2 front sight blades. The 2 sight blades I have both have red inserts. I have 2 extra grips. One of these are the smooth grips in first photo of slideshow. I got them cheap in a LGS bargain bin. They came in an eagle grips box shown in second photo. Wondering if they are actually Eagles.

Anyway, I know nothing about DWs except what I've gleaned off this site in the last couple of days and am wondering what I have and how difficult/expensive it will be to complete it.

Also, any suggestions for safely cleaning the foam inserts?

TIA-Mike

Looks to me all you need is a belt buckle and those can be easily had on eBay.  I would get some flannel to cover the foam. I can remember if the foam was covered in that early case or not with a flannel fabric. If you're planning on using and shooting it I would get one of ewk's barrel wrenches as the original plastic ones are a bit fragile.

Besides that looks like you are good to go!

Pretty Dan. That is an early target grip, a later target grip, Pachmyer Presentation, amd the combat grip is probably the Eagle grip. IMHO only. A couple of days of reading the forum is just scratching the surface. Your life will never be the same as before you acquired a dan.

The foam in that era of PP didn't have fabric over it, not to say that you can't use some.smile If it was me, I'd throw the foam in the clothes washer with a bunch of rags or other stuff you don't mind having a hint of oil on, then let it air dry once it's done. It will probably come out looking much better.goodluck

Great looking PP by the way!cool-pics

Thanks for the replies, so glad I found this forum. Jody, I will take your advise on the wrench. Charger Fan, taking yours too but believe I need to wait until the wife is out of the house for a few hours, LOL. Ole Dog, you are probably correct about the grips, I could well have put the wrong ones back in the box.

2 new questions: I would like to know when this revolver was produced and where is a good place to get the feeler gauge? Do folks just used the old ones we used back in the day when you could adjust the points in your car's distributor?

Many Thanks Again,

Mike

check this link. It will give you an idea on manufacture date. Only info compiled at this time.

Pretty much the flat feeler gages from then are what you want. I usually set my tightest cylinder at .002-.003. the largest should be no more than .006 which is what factory gage would be. There is oodles of good information on this sight for a Dan Wesson newbie. IMHO, you have in your possession one of the finest revolvers ever made. Good Shooting...and welcome to the forumdwf
