In the following listing the frame has cutting on the frame right above the barrel from, I guess, gases, etc from discharged ammo. Is this a serious condition on this gun?

It's common, but never serious.  That gun has flame cutting that is just about as far as it will go.  The flame doesn't have enough power to cut any more than that.  It in no way compromises the safety of the gun.  There have been a number of artcles written about this.  I believe it takes quite a lot of use to get it to this point.

Also Jaggman from what I have read this occurs more rapidly when using lighter weight bullets.  If I'm not mistaken you use bullets that weigh 158gr +

Looks like that gun in question has some barney effect going on as well.

Jaggman,

They covered it all above, but I wanted to mention that the factory Remington 158's really add to this flame cutting as Jody mentioned.  I shot a few through my blued 357SM and they really do "flame".  When you start using the loading charts out there and load 180 grain bullets you do not notice this as much.

The SuperMag was designed to shoot 180-200 grain bullets for silhouette. The use of lighter-weight bullets pushed at very high velocities is not recommended. Even the heavyweight bullets will cause topstrap erosion, but it only goes so far and is not a safety issue.

I like that guy's pics. I'm going to have to save a couple, for future use.
