All you guys have been great. Thanks for the overwhelming response.  I opened it and tried the pull, it was easier. When I shut it, it remained easier to pull. still very strong but noticably

easier.  As for the gap, if I'm looking in the right place, there is none. I'm assuming that this is a bad thing ??  I also wanted to ask the recomended bullet size for home protection?   By the way the serial number is in the 5 digits.  Old ??   thanks again everyone.  mark996owl

Sounds like you are on the right track. Cylinder gap (the gap between the barrel and cylinder face) should be .006 to factory spec, or you can run tighter but it should never touch, and less than .002 will tend to drag with powder buildup. You will need a feeler gauge and a barrel wrench. The one to the right of the screen is a good one. Check the gap on all 6 chambers as the cylinder faces are some times not true. 5 digits will put you in the early to mid 70s range. As for ammunition choice there are a multitude of defense ammunition types out there, and I am not up on any of it, so maybe someone else can jump in here.

The Black Talon, which is a wicked hollow point that opens up into what looks like a jagged propeller can be found in 38 and 357,  For 38; the wadcutter is very accurate at self defense distances and imparts a lot of energy upon impact.  You can get a gap gauge from an auto parts store, just be sure it has .006 and maybe .004 and as stated check gap on all cylinders and set on the tightest.Proud To Be An AmericanProud To Be An American

Best to go with any top brand name JHP self defense ammo. Lead bullets have

a nasty habit of passing through soft tissue and then through the wall behind and

then the wall behind that and .........get the idea ?

I agree.  Also lead leaves a nasty mess in your barrel.  It's much easier to clean up after shooting jacketed bullets.

BTW, if I haven't said it before, Welcome to the DWF Sign.
