Sign up to be notified when EWK has the barrels in stock again.
I just picked up a 4inch stainless barrel for a model 15 from EWK arms, and it is possibly the NICEST DW barrel that I own now. Amazing crown, forcing cone, and rifling work.
I had purchased an older Monson stainless 4 inch barrel and shroud online (Gunbroker) and both ends looked like they had been dressed by someone using a wood file.
It had so much barrel leading upon arrival that I almost could have made another 38/357 bullet after cleaning the lands and grooves. The icing on the cake was the vicious pitting on the outside of the barrel, and the pitting found underneath the leading inside the barrel.
It looked like the barrel had been soaked in some sort of caustic solution in an unsuccessful attempt to remove the stubborn leading. The outside of the stainless barrel, and more importantly the inside was absolutely horribly pitted.
Despite the terrible pitting, it shot jacketed ammunition better than I hoped, but it's a mess with lead. I ended up getting a decent 4inch shroud out of the purchase, but the barrel was pretty much a write off.
Because of that lovely experience, I purchased an EWK 4inch stainless barrel, and had to sign up for email notification when one was in stock. ( none were showing in stock when I first looked) A short time after that I was notified that a barrel was available, and I purchased it.
The EWK replacement barrel I purchased is beautiful. It's more accurate than my other barrel, and is an engineering marvel. It was also less expensive, and MUCH less hassle. It took me a coon's age to de-lead that pitted "bargain" online purchased model 15 barrel.
I strongly recommend signing up for the EWK email notification, and getting one of his barrels rather than rolling the dice like I did. I was/am VERY satisfied with my EWK barrel purchase.
I could offer to set you up with a stainless 4 inch barrel tube - really cheap, but I wouldn't do something like that to a fellow DW forum member.

I've bought 3 barrels/shrouds on auctions, one on GB, and the others on Ebay, all were ok. The one I got on GB was really leaded up, to the point I thought it was bad, but a lot of passes with a Lewis Lead Remover, and it was like new again. I'm not too nervous about buying barrels on auction.

I have managed to purchase satisfactory barrel and shroud assemblies from Ebay, as well as 2 others from GB. I have also ordered a brand new Super Mag barrel and shroud assembly from CZ USA which was put together amazingly well.
With the exception of that one leaded and horribly pitted stainless 4inch barrel and shroud assembly I received from GB, all the rest of my used online purchases have been OK.
The leading was not my main complaint, although I did find removing it to be annoying. The massive surface pitting on the outside and inside of the barrel was what ruined it for me. I chucked the barrel up and turned the outside to remove the external surface pitting, but the inside bore pitting was so bad that I could not clean it up with bore paste, or even with a mild fire lapping.
The stainless barrel only, as the shroud was perfectly fine had obviously been soaked in some sort of caustic solution (perhaps a vinegar and peroxide mix) in an unsuccessful attempt to remove the horrible leading. It had etched the outside and inside of the barrel quite badly.
I wish I had taken a before picture, or that I could snap a bore scope picture to show just how bad the pitting was underneath the leading, sadly my photography skills just are not up to the task.
If you want or need an older Monson or a Palmer roll marked shroud to fill out a pistol pack, or for your collection rather than a new laser etched shroud... Used Ebay and GB purchases are pretty much your main choices.
That being said, none of the used barrel/shroud combos that I've purchased online have been as high in quality, or as economical as what EWK is currently offering. EWK Arms really has a superior product in my opinion.
There seems to be a trend lately to overcharge for used DW barrel assemblies online. We have all seen the pack breakers busting up kits just to sell the base components. If there was no market for it, then that sort of thing wouldn't happen as often as it does.
Correctly represented items, as well as better deals are to be found here through the DW forum, or from EWK in my experience.

I forgot to mention my standard lead removal procedure.
When I rarely do get barrel leading, usually from doing something different like using factory or undersized lead bullets or some new bullet lube.
I use a bit of an all copper Chore Boy brand pot scrubber wrapped tightly around an old worn out copper bore brush. (check with a magnet to be sure its a pure copper pad, and not plated)
I use a bit of the trimmed copper Chore Boy scrubber strands wrapped around the brush for a tight bore fit, with a spritz of Kroil (Kano Labs Aerokroil) to get the lead out. It takes some time and elbow grease, but it will eventually be successful.
I have been told that others use Bronze Wool, but I can never find it locally.

I may be lucky but I have been happy with most of the shrouds and grips I have purchased from ebay. Those I have gotten cheap were inferior but for shooters they work. If they claimed NOS or LNIB they are generally as represented. Are they expensive, yes. So please stop bidding!!! They are cheaper than DW/CZ new laser etched . That will not last. In the last year prices have gone up over 20%. Ditto for zebra wood grips, round butt conceal grips, pistol pack cases, and anything for lg. frame or supermags. Buy now or forget it. Have you ever heard of Colt Pythons? One day CZ will stop making parts. Then all hell will break loose.
