Greetings to all DW lovers. I have 2 eight and 1 six inch barrel assemblies for my two 15-2s right now. I have always kind of wanted something a little smaller to take on my smaller river boat with my wife and I. Nothing like beaching on a sandbar, stretching the legs and doing a little casual target shooting. Question is; does the difference in the two smaller barrels equate to a big difference in accuracy? What kind of groups can one expect say, from 25 to 50 yards out of the two? I do have the little "detective type" grip, so going as small as poss. does have it's merits. I would appreciate feedback from any of you who have experience with these sizes. Thanks.
Bob Mundon did a demonstration of the range and accuracy of a 44 mag with a 2" barrel. He hit balloons at 500yds. He's an expert, but practice is what makes accuracy possible. I would suggest wadcutters either in 38 or if you reload; 38 level loads in 357 cases, as the shorter 38's leave a carbon ring in the cylinders that require extensive scrubbing to use 357's again. The wadcutters are very accurate out to 20 or so yds and easy on the hands for extended shooting with the short barrel. I've taken rabbits, squirrel and even a large feral dog with the wadcutters and they were all dropped on the spot.

I appreciate everyone's comments. Jody, the additiional rifling length of 1.5 inches in the barrel gives the projectile a little more spin, this leads me to believe that the trajectory would be maintained for a longer distance. So, if that is correct, at what point do you see your 2.5 pattern widen to the point that you are not confident of reasonable bullet placement? Does DW change rifling twist ratios based on barrel length? Here's another question, with the std .125 rear sight and the std colored insert ramped front sight installed, is there any daylight to be found?
Robert, I do reload, I also reload WC's for my S&W 52-1 and I agree with you about both the accuracy and stopping power. I have not killed anything larger than a red squirrel with this load but with 3.4 grains of bullseye you can blow through both sides of a semi truck tire at 20 yards.
As for the 4 being as accurate as the six, I cannot say the same for the 8 vs. the 6 that I have, both 8's are more predictable for me.
Anyone have both the 2.5 and 4 out there? Thanks for the comments and any further ones.
I know the twist rate was the same for al the Monson barrels; as they were made from one blank on one machine for each caliber. They made a few custom riflings for competition, I found out when I purchased a barrel on Ebay and I noticed the twist was in the opposite direction, the barrel was inscribed IHSMA. This was just a barrel in 8" for 357mag, no shroud. The twist rate for the Norwich barrels seem to be different than the older barrels, by observation with a light.
