Hello. I'm new here with questions. I have a DW 15-2 V with 6 and 2 1/2 " barrels. For the longest time I've wanted a 4" and after the years went by I finally bought one just a few weeks ago but it is not a vent rib. Figured I'd better do something. I love the weight and balance but I would really love to keep them all the same. Is there any chance of finding a 4" V shroud or barrel/shroud set these days. EWK doesn't have a blued 4" V that I can tell. One more question, Is there a known gun smith that anyone could suggest throughout the country that is totally trusted to be competent on Dan Wesson revolvers. Just to know.

Thanks in advance and Cheers to all. I really like this site and glad to be a member.

Welcome to the forum. I guess you would be like the rest of us here, in the search that is. I usually see some good parts on ebay and gun auctions sites. You just have to keep an eye out. You may find a friend on here that wants a trade or has something to sell even. They'll be some more folks chime in soon enough to be sure. As far as the smiths, I think there may be some folks on the forum who can help. I do my own smithing and some for others close to me but I am not FFL yet though I hope to be soon.  I will say DW's are pretty easy to work on unless you have to fit a part, then like any weapon, if your not practiced it is wise to seek a professional, Again, you'll get more responses on the subject.

Welcome to DWF. We are all a bunch guys with a weakness for the best revolver ever made.dwf-welcome

I think CZ makes shrouds and you can buy from them.  (I bought a couple of .22 barrels, on sale, and was less than happy with them.)  EWK makes shrouds, I haven't bought one, but I did buy a .44 barrel from him and it is VERY nice!  I haven't shot the EWK barrel yet, but it looks nicer than my factory barrels.

"Correct" shrouds I've bought have been off GunsAmerica and GunBroker.  A 6"VH .22 off GA must have been a Pack breakup and was perfect...a smoking deal.  A 6"VH .44 off GB was NIB (old stock), a bit spendy, but exactly what I wanted.  The .44 had just a hint of surface rust on the outside of the barrel (not shroud)...these things are like 30+ years old and I wasn't surprised.  Keep looking, these things are out there.

I read a thread on here earlier today about "Broken Crane".  Hint: gun repair!

Good luck.

Welcome to DWF! I have only 4 VH shrouds for all my DW revolvers, they balance and shoot perfectly for me.

Have you shopped eBay for DW stuff yet?

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

If you ever need service or repair that you cannot take care of yourself, the only the only course of action I recommend is to send it to the factory at Norwich. They know what they are doing there.

Another option is to contact Eric at EWKarms and have him cut the vents in the solid rib on the shroud you bought.  I had Eric vent an eight inch standard shroud to match my other barrels.  He did a superb job and was very reasonable.  I cannot tell the difference  between the shroud Eric vented and a standard shroud.  He does not list this on his web site but was willing to do the job.  I had to wait while he was doing other work but it was worth it.  Send him a note and see what he can do.

I can late to the discourse. You have gotten great advice. Eric can do anything, ebay always has barrel assemblies and grips. If you cannot do it yourself ( hands, cylinders, etc. ) send it to Dan Wesson. Call and ask for Keith. Read "the Average Joe tuneup"  thread and spend time reading the wealth of information on the forum. Virtually anything you would want to know has already been discussed.Lastly, buy as many dans as you can.
