Correct me if I'm wrong, DW never made a 40S&W revolver.  What would it take to convert a revolver?  A new barrel, enlarge the chambers and cut the cylinder for moon clips - anything else?  Is it safe?  (I reload 40 and don't want to start another caliber, 38/357.)

To my knowledge no 40 S&W. I think you covered all the issues but I wonder if it would need to be a large frame as I do not know if the small frame would be big enough for the mods. Others here will know better than I, I am sure.

To my knowledge they never did.  I believe Lb is correct that it would have required a large frame revolver to accomodate that round.

The problem I see with large frame is that all the calibers are larger than 40.  You can't make the chambers smaller.  I'm not sure of the safety with a small frame either.

You could always use a model 40/740 frame and cylinder (modified) or just get a cylinder for one and shorten it as well for a large frame (as opposed to a SM frame).  Then, of course, you're still going to have to have a custom barrel made.

S&W Model 610 and 310 both use full moon clips for the 10mm or the 40 S&W.  They show up on Gunbroker all the time.

I think the expense in converting would not be worth it in the end. dies for the 38 would seem much cheaper with out the head aches.   Although Dan did make a 9mm, this may be one to convert if any!  Just my 2 cents!

I agree a 10mm 40 S&W (Short & Weak) make an excellent revolver.  The 10mm shoots flat and has good knock down power and the 40 S&W can punch reasonably round hole in cardboard.
