What would you guys like the .44 barrels to be? Love to hear your feedback to how we might be able to make any improvements by tweaking the .44 barrel specs.

The SAAMI .44 specs are-

.417 bore/.429 groove

6 groove

1:20 RH twist

Pretty set on the bore spec since I already have the tooling for that. Should have asked sooner. embarassed But maybe go with a 14-16 twist instead of the 20? And I believe my DW barrel is a 8 groove.

Really appreciate any feedback! laugh

Try the 14 twist

8 groove!

on lengths and shrouds

2" 3" 4"  to start with in the EH

I will ask my expert what he thinks!

Although not a barrel per se; I'd like to see a picatinny top to the shroud for scope mounting....laugh

Thanks DWA! Ron, I'm working on small frame version, after that is produced, we will have to do something for the large frame! laugh

I don't have enough experience with twist rates yet, to weigh in with an opinion. But…count me in for one of your first 10" barrels, I have an empty shroud here just waiting for a barrel.laugh

1 vote for a 4incher, not sure what the twist rate on my factory 8incher is

but it's more accurate rested than I will ever be offhand. Not sure if twist

makes any or much difference from 8 to 4 but considering most would

use the 4 incher for close (50 yrds and under) range.

would like to see a twist rate for HEAVY bullets in the 300 range. 30 to 20 twist to be used in a 8inch 445

The 5" barrel on my fixed barrel is a real nice compromise between a 4 and 6", I wouldn't mine a 5" with a shroud profile more like a Smith Mountain Gun rather than a full lug.

Man thinking on this again  I would love to 12 or 13" in 44mag!  Think of the reach out and touch..... 5", 3" 7" any of the odd would cool!  2.5" would be a blast just for CC!

what about 5"    VH with mount for lazer lite under the shroud. I don't know that much about the twist rate. I'm stuck on the hornady 240gr hpxtp. bullet so any thing that will stabelize that would work for me. go for itoccasion

I think a 12" V & VH would be cool to expand the pistol packs.  These would be very heavy for sure, but cool nonetheless.

Hey Eric the DW is not a 1-20", it's a 1:18.75" twist for all barrels according to Keith. That's why all the accuracy loads in the reloading books don't work, that's a PIA for some.

I would love a 3" barrel assembly myself.

Ooooh, I need a 3" heavy and a 5" lite  . And genaric , non- caliber marked shrouds could add flexibility.
