Newbie here...I believe this is a Dan Wesson 44 mag Hunter Pac w/case. Pistol is Monson rollmarked and serial is B0177xx.
It has the 8" & 6" barrels and the extra shrouds. My (stupid)question is what's the point of the extra shrouds? And is $1000 a good price for this? It's in excellent shape(light handling marks) minus one small scratch on 8" barrel.... Thanks.....

First of all- Welcome to the DWF.
Not a bad price for what you have and as long as you're happy with it, even better. That isn't a true Hunter Pac but you can definitely hunt with it!
Not exactly sure what you are asking about the shrouds, maybe you can clarify, are there more than the two showing? What you have are extra (ported) barrels. FWIW, I'd sell them on ebite and make some dough for ammo. You definitely don't want to shoot them in a shroud that isn't ported and even then, it can often be a mess.
Welcome again, have a look around- there is a lot to learn about your first Dan and the second, and the third...

ok I gotcha. .. the shroud is the part that is protecting(around) the barrel. I believe the shroud is ported as the pic shows....correct? Also I was told that it was a type of pistol pac or hunter pac but no worries. Should I sell the non-ported barrels instead?

Please do yourself a favor and sell off the ported barrels. If no one will buy them, bury them in the backyard. The DW "Power Control" system is pointless and non functional. The barrel ports vent into the shroud, some small part of that energy seeps out of the tiny slots ported into the shroud. Meanwhile, the inside of your shroud is accumulating powder residue, lead shavings, ...

I disagree. Don't sell the ported barrels. You'll get next to nothing for them and they complete the gun and make the (let's call it a short-pac) more valuable to a collector.
Like everyone else, however, I would not recommend shooting them. They make an awful mess on the inside of the shroud. That mess can be cleaned up but it's hard work; a 12ga bore brush helps a lot. If you want to try out the ported barrels, definitely use jacketed bullets and disassemble and clean after your range day.
Another reason not to shoot them is that they have almost no effect as a ported barrel for reducing recoil. It was a good idea that just didn't work in practice.
Since you have everything except the 4 and 10-inch barrel assemblies and the 4-inch ported barrel (there was never a ported 10-inch barrel), $1k isn't too bad a price, especially considering the condition.
Enjoy.

Welcome to the forum from PA. I agree with Zoomb do not sell the barrels. It looks like a nice .44 pistol pac to me. And I think $1000 is a fair price. That is a very nice looking zebra wood grip on the gun.
And I also agree do not shoot the ported barrels! But do keep them it looks like a nice pac. Buy it and post some more

Are the shrouds shown ported from DW or is that something like Magna PORT? I have a 4" shroud that looks just like that but the barrel has a port in the same shape as the holes (for lack of a better word) in the shroud. Thanks
I'm sure one of the other members on here can answer that better than I.

Thanks. I actually bought this for my father(he always liked the big wheel guns) but I should have known better as he has serious shoulder problems and lately his hand is bothering him. So with that I'm probably going to sell it down the road. But I need to shoot it first!! lol.... I wish the old man kept some of his 44 ammo cause dang, it is high $$!

No, not really like MagnaPort. The holes in the barrel (IRRC there are six) do not match up to the shroud ports. MagnaPort works because it is a direct port from barrel , DW's is not

You are a good son! Nice set. Keep the ported barrels...don't shoot with them. I know it doesn't fit any logic, but that's what I'd do. I broke my .22 plastic wrench, you may consider getting one of the wrenches from EWK to use instead. Consider finding a 4" BA to round out the package if your Dad wants a packing gun. I'm not a fan of the 10" systems; even the 8" VH is pretty heavy. If he's just going to punch paper at the range what you have for him (other than the plastic wrench) is perfect.
In my cloudy memory the Hunter Pac came with 6 & 8 inch barrels, but not in that type of case. My .44 came with a cleaning brush, seems large...for the shroud? (In the world of DW snobs er collectors you'd also need the yellow plastic disk and the paperwork, none of which makes the gun any funner to shoot!)
Just a thought on shooting the .44 as a person gets older and has wrist issues. The DW is a heavy revolver and absorbs a lot of recoil due to that weight. If he reloads he can shoot lead bullets, 240 grain, in the 900 - 1000 fps range and be happy. (Note: Do NOT even think about shooting the lead bullets with the ported barrels!!!!) Between the heavy weight and the light loads the gun is pleasant to shoot!

The one I mentioned does have the exact holes in the barrel too. There are not holes around the barrel but just holes the same shape as the ones on the shroud.
I think that sounds like a custom job. I still say that unless the barrel>shroud ports line up exactly, AND are sealed in some way so the muzzle blast vents directly out, rather than inside the shroud, it's not functionally "ported"
