So I wandered into my local shop today, and go straight to the used case like always. No Dan Wessons, but 3 different .44 Redhawks. (very odd)
Hey what's that in the back? "Let me see the Dan Wesson barrel please."
4" .44 mag barrel, I take off the nut and he barrel is stuck in the shroud. hmmn. one good smak and it comes free. Ahh, barrel has ports drilled in it 360 degrees around. double check the shroud, yup ported.
hmmn.
If the barrel was unported I'd have boughtit in a heartbeat, but I'm not sold on the idea of a ported barrel. What do you guys think? Sould I go back and grab it, and what price would be considered a "steal".

I would be interested in buying it, not sure what going market is but if shroud is pristine I guess I would go $150 for the group. That said I would rather keep it in the $75/$100 range, cause I poor thanks to raising two grandsons.
What were they asking?

I purchased my LNIB 744 VH4 Barrel and Shroud for $205 and that was probably 2 years ago. The 4" Barrel Assemblies are more scare than the longer ones.
As long as you shoot jacketed bullets you'll be fine with ported barrel. I would recommend staying away from lead or you will need to clean at least every 200 rounds!

Blue or stainless?
My 4-inch stainless barrel assembly cost me $285 sometime in the last 6-8 months. All .44 shrouds are ported except the 10-inch. The barrels themselves are usually not ported. I had to buy all of my ported barrels as accessories because the barrel assemblies came with unported barrels.
I only shot jacketed bullets through my ported barrels and I disassemble and clean after every use. Cleaning the stuff of the inside of the shroud requires a 12ga. bore brush and is a PITA. Likewise, cleaning the outside of a ported barrel requires an emery board and is also a pain.
The benefit of the ported barrel is indistinguishable to me and the extra cleaning is too big of a pain so I only shoot my unported barrels now.

I figured If I got the set I would buy a new 4" barrel and put ported one in storage like I did the one out of my 8" barrel.
Been a fan of 4" revolvers for years, got the 15-2 V4 in the lock-box beside the bed, will upgrade to S&W 610-3 4" after it arrives this month or next from S&W.

Would you want a hard to replace DW as a house gun and have to loose it if you ever had to use the gun? Not me, it's why a S&W 610 is coming. I do have a 610 5" but it's one of just a few hundred made so it's not in the box, neither is my Colt Delta Elite (10mm) from 1988 for that matter.
My G-29 goes with me when I leave the house under the front seat or IWB when out of the car. I am thinking about getting a G20 this summer for the house, 15 vs 6 is real appealing.
Not bad looking for '88 model and yes I do like my 10mm toys.

357 for paper plinking and small stuff, 10mm for when 45ACP isn't enough and 44 mag for everything else.

I was first in asking to buy but it has to be SS or I can't use it, but the guy that bought it is the one whon says who gets it or how he wants to trade or sell.
