I HAVE HAD A 744 IN .44 MAG CONFIG. I THINK IT SHOULD SHOOT BETTER THAN 5" GROUPS AT 50 YDS. THE BARREL TO CYL. GAP IS EXACTLY .OO6" THE AMMO IS HAND LOADS HP/XTP WITH 10. GNS OF TITEGROUP. I LAPPED THE BARREL LAST NIGHT AND AM GOING TO THE RANGE TODAY TO SEE IF IT IS BETTER. ANY ONE ELSE HAVE THIS PROBLEM?

I have used Titegroup in the .45 Colt for light loads, but it is too fast for heavy loads in the .44. For moderate loads in the .44, consider Universal Clays or Unique. For heavy loads, powders like WW296 or Lil Gun might be more appropriate.
I rebarreled my 744 with a light 6" barrel. Accuracy seemed to go to crap. I finally checked my cylinder throats with pin gages and found them slightly tight. I broke down and got a .431" reamer and reamed all the throats. Accuracy improvement was dramatic. Now it is super accurate.
