I've always wanted a DW 44 mag. So when the opportunity came up I jumped on it. It's an 8 inch vented first issue. I can't decode all the markings on the box. Is there any where I can go to do that ? Also what else came in the box ? Did they sell these with just one barrel or am I missing one! Any help would most appreciated.

Nice looking gun! BTW that is a 744 because its stainless.

Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

My father

If a man designed it, and a man built it, then a man can fix it.

When I bought a DW new, it was a Monson made gun.

A 44mag (744VH) 8" barrel.

In the box was the revolver with a 8" barrel shroud, an un-vented 8" barrel, a vented 8" barrel, a barrel wrench, feeler gauge.

I don't believe that Norwich issued the second barrel tube with compensator holes, as previously done from Monson. You have a very nice revolver (744-V8S) with an un-fluted cylinder and Vented & Slotted barrel shroud, including the much desired "doorknob" style barrel tool. What makes you think it is a Silhouette model?

You can order more barrel assemblies from DW in Norwich or keep an eye out for one on ebay. Unfortunately, the First Issue guns will be impossible to match up with more First Issue Shrouds with the same number. You would have had to order them at the same time as the gun purchase from the factory. Still, a new Norwich BA will fit. As will a Monson or Palmer shroud. Norwich could fix you up with a matching slotted shroud in 10" or maybe 6". I would just buy another gun, maybe a 357 Supermag or a small frame gun or 3.
