Recently bought a DW 44 mag that appears to be in very good condition and was shooting just fine. Then the cylinder became reluctant to lock up. The little hand or part that is supposed to rise to lock the cylinder from turning is reluctant. Sometimes ok, other times no. Took it to two local smiths wo success. Sent it to CZ and it came back in the same way. Note I'm not too good putting things back together and am reluctant to tear into it. I read the forum presentation on disassembly which convined me to seek expert help.
I'm in northern Arizona. Anyone in the general area noted for working on DW? Any other gunsmiths that could be recommended?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Did you send it to Dan Wesson in Norwich? It is inconceivable that they did not fix it. If you sent it to CZ elsewhere it would explain it. I would call Keith at Dan Wesson and discuss it with him. The bolt locks into the cylinder at lockup. It rises out of the bottom strap. The hand turns the cylinder when you pull the trigger. It is in the recoil shield. You may have a bad bolt spring.

Gotta be the bolt spring or possibly just something gumming up the works around the cylinder bolt or in the area of the bolt spring. Based on the description sounds like an easy fix. CZ-USA owns Dan Wesson, but the Dan Wesson factory/gunsmiths are in Norwich, NY.

Thank you PAbowhunter. I have not taken the time to learn how to post pictures and links. I really need to become more competent with tech. Until my DWAS I never used a smart phone, surfed the internet, used a computer, sent emails, etc. I get vertigo from using a computer monitor. Smart phones don't make my eye move in circles. It is time to stop being lazy and learn more. Learning is soooo much like that hated homework from long ago.
