So I have been told the .44 Rhino was just a early 445 Supermag true? Was there any problems with the Rhino as it was really the prototype of the 445 Supermag? Would a Rhino be worth more if it was the same size and barrel configuration than it's brother the 445 Supermag and be more collectible than the Supermag? Thanks!!!!

Here's an earlier thread on the subject, with a link to an article.

https://www.danwessonforum.com/forum/revolvers/supermag-44-rhino-ammo/

Excerpt from a Guns International listing by Cabelas: "There is an interesting article written in Guns & Ammo magazine January 1988 about the .44 Rhino and the Dan Wesson SuperMag revolver used for the conversion. The .357 SuperMag revolver was rebarreled and a .44 Rhino chambered cylinder added to form this model. .30-40 Krag brass was used as the parent to form the .44 Rhino at 1.75" in length."

The Rhinos I have seen for sale don't seem to be selling for more than a 445. The Rhino may have been a little more powerful than a 445.

IMO, not more valuable and not better.  The one on GB, listed as 445 SM, requires better pictures or hands on examination.  The 1988 article can be found in the subscriber’s area.

Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

Yea I had to pry the info out of him when I messaged him. Asked him for better pictures 2 days ago.  Do you think it should be listed as a 445 Supermag? Other threads say it will shoot a 445 supermag cartridge but the article said the gun was made from a 357 maximum. I know if I did not know about this and bought it I would be a bit upset when I opened the box and no where on the gun does it say 445 supermag! This is why I started this thread i'm glad I did thanks for info I think his price is way too high

They were made by adapting  a 44 mag barrel to a model 40(357 max) frame and boring the cylinder to 44 caliber. Essentially it is a 445 Supermag but not factory.

Talked to the Rhino guy, he got better pics up and changed the listing to add 44 Rhino. Now the weird thing is the barrel shroud says Supermag on one side and where the roll mark is on the other side of the barrel it has the Rhino marking. I can see why he thought it was a supermag and it is since it was made out of a 40 357 maximum supermag.  The new shows it's in pretty good condition!

Yeah, most of the Rhino shrouds seem to be marked much the same as this one. As a huge afterthought by some hack company. Maybe I'm passing bad judgment? Dunno...

Me, myself, have passed up on 3 of these in the past, mostly due to sketchy photos much like this one from sellers. I'd let this one go, for that price. If it were 1/3rd that price, I may be entertained. wink

The Ruger forum has an interesting thread on .44 Rhino reloading data, but our forum will not allow me to post the link.

You could just shoot 445 supermags out of it. At least they are selling them now! I just bought some from Buffalo Bore and dam that's a big shell, I bought 60 180gr and 60@240gr That 240gr is heavy! Can't wait to shoot it out of my 445 supermag (10"HV) that should be a boom!

Stan, my favorite bullet for 445SM is the 300gr Speer flat nose...that sucker hits HARD! range-time cool

Those 180gr bullets...if you miss your mark, I bet they sail on forever. big-grinThat's comparing a 38 Special bullet loaded in a .357 Max...super light, super fast.
