I recently purchased a used Non ported 6" barrel. Seems like I have a couple of problems.
1)While installing the barrel nut it would only thread a couple of turns than locked up.
2) When I removed the nut I tried to remove the shroud it would not budge,finally I had to unscrew the barrel from the receiver end with the shroud still attached. I literally had to force the barrel from the shroud. The shroud has been cleaned before I did the install
3) I noticed that the 1st or 2nd threads on the the end of the barrel have a very small nick. Can the barrel threads be cleaned up ?

Yes the threads can be cleaned, there is a thread listing the pitch of the barrel threads as well as the frame threads for various calibers. Can't look for it on my phone for some reason.
Also, the large frame guns, the barrel is removed from the rear of the shroud, not through the front, there is a bit of a taper that won't allow it.

when I removed the ported barrel to check the fit of the replacement non ported the shroud pulled right off with no binding at all. With the replacement barrel the shroud would hardly budge, could barely turn it. Had to tap it on the nut end (with a leather mallet) and in finally came loose. Everything seems clean.
I am also looking for a replacement rear sight assembly. All the ones I see do not match mine. Any ideas where one can be had ?.

John, when you sent me a P M the photos were not good. I think you had a lump at the end of the barrel.. Was that the muzzle end or the forcing cone end. I thought it was the forcing cone end. As long as you could screw it into the frame it would have been alright. Now I suspect you may have a barrel that had a squib stuck in it and another round fired. That would bulge the barrel and cause the problem you have now. Does the inside of the barrel show any deformity?

The tiny hump is not at the receiving end. The barrel screws into the frame with no problem. Also, included are pics of the threads at the muzzle end and some inside the barrel. Everything looks good and straight. And some sight pics

Looks fine to my eye at least. The threads seem nice and sharp too.
Is this a used tube or a new barrel tube? If new, perhaps a drop of oil on the threads and barrel nut will help.
You are saying the tube is tight in the shroud correct?
Is the inside of the shroud nice and clean?
A drop of oil spread on the outside of the barrel may help ease installation/removal.

Think I found the problem. There is a tiny nick in the threads 1st or 2nd ring at the muzzle end. So when I tightened down the barrel screw the whole barrel was turning thus the hang up. Should I go to a machine shop or to a GS to have the threads cleaned up ? Tried the oil thing same result.

Either would do, just have to be sure they have the proper die to chase the threads.

If you have a needle file, you can probably clean them up yourself. Just run the nut all the way down, past the burr if you can, touch up the threads with the file, remove the nut/ repeat as needed.

You may want to clean the threads of the barrel nut with a metal dental tool or pick. I bought a black parkerized 15-2 set on auction and had to do that to the nut and frame when I got it,
Previous owner could have also cross threaded part of the nut for a couple threads before it bound up
