New here, just recently found this place.  Trying to figure out whether I should buy the above revolver.  I have been plotting to buy a 4 to 6 inch 357 S&W for a while.  I got outbid on two 686-4's recently.  I also almost bought a 19-3.  I decided a while ago I didn't want anything with a lock on it.  I have had numerous S&W's and have gotten rid of all of them.  I just don't like the j-lock and what it represents and how it came to be. (mine all had locks)  I found this Dan Wesson at my local shop and other that not knowing anything about it, it appears to be a well built gun.  It is a 715H with a 5 inch fixed barrel and it was built in Palmer.  Palmer not being the most desirable place of manufacture?  Anyone have any thoughts or feedback?  Any idea how old this gun is?  I have the gun stashed right now but I will need to let them know in the next couple days if I want it.  I am their version of a vegas whale!    Thanks  Chris

Any crap you hear about Palmer guns being lower quality is , well, crap. This is a shooting Internet myth that has no basis.

In fact, there are many Palmer guns owned here, with no problems. Whether you should buy it depends on how much you want to spend for a solid, good quality, stainless .357 Mag

There are guys here who would go $500-600 for this gun, the Fixed Barrel models are fairly scarce

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

From what I can tell from the pic, looks like a fine wheel gun. Not so  sure on the FB's but I would say I could be happy if I got it $550-650. Maybe some of the other gents here have a better fix on these.

Welcome.  I second what Steve CT says.  If you post the s/n (xx last two digits) Steve should be able to give you a manufacture date.  Sounds like you have some knowledge about revolvers, if it checks out (see this https://www.danwessonforum.com/forum/revolvers/revolver-checkout-how-to-tell-if-a-particular-specimen-is-any-good/ and this https://www.danwessonforum.com/forum/reloading/checking-out-the-revolver/) then it's as good to go as any DW can be.  Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks you guys.  After I posted my question I tried something crazy.....I used the "advanced"  search function!  I found way more than enough good reasons to buy this gun and I will do so tomorrow.  Serial number is 357S0046XX  Thanks Chris

Fixed barrel guns started in 1992, my guess on this gun is 1994, but S/N info for this time period is pretty thin

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

buy-nowThat's a perfect size for fun and home defense. Of course one you get started you will be hooked. I have a Palmer 722 and it's a tack driver. fit and function equal to any DW produced.

It would make a fine first Dan Wesson. And you will make a fine forum member. Posting pictures and answering your own questions is a great start.

This would be a nice buy at 500.00 , nothing wrong with Palmer era guns just a myth as Steve said, I have a few and they as nice or nicer than the Monson or Norwich DWs I have.

Welcome!

Looks like the guys have you covered.  The only reason I don't own a Palmer is that they are too scarce to make a full (all calibers) collection out of.

Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

This gun is $650.  I spend a fair amount of money at this shop and I will pay less than that.  The funny thing is they have had it for probably 3 months.  I fondled it several times and really didn't know anything about it.  I feel I am getting something unique and cool in comparison to a pre-lock 686 or 19-3.  I must admit I still find a 19-3 very attractive!  Chris
