I've got an opportunity to get a 738P "Lil' Dan" and would appreciate some experienced input on value and spare parts availability.  My friend said that it's very clean, lockup is tight and it's been fired, but not much. No other barrels, shrouds, feeler gauge, box or papers.

What do you guy's think ?

That price is fair for a lil dan.  Even better if he'd throw in some .38+P

Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

If you want this as a rarely seen/available Dan Wesson, then by all means do it. You won't find much else for this gun because there is not much else. There won't be other barrels, shrouds... Not that kind of DW.

Collectors item, YES. Shooter or carry gun, maybe not. Before I carried a Lil Dan, I'd carry a Ruger LCR in .357 MAG

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for.  Are you saying this is a fixed barrel model ?

When I need a small frame carry piece, I have a S&W 360PD.

Is this model called "Lil' Dan" because the frame is smaller, or because it only chambers .38 Special?

How many internal parts (if any) are the same as the 14 / 15 variants?

I'm still doing my due diligence, but if I decide not to get it, I will send you the store details.

Frame is much smaller, nothing interchanges with the other Dan models that I am aware of. At that price I am sure someone will scoop it up.

IMHO,

The 738 is the best small frame 38 revolver I have ever shot. Its smoother than my friends Colt SF and also his 38 Smith and Wesson. The grip angle seems to be perfect to take the recoil of the hottest 38+P loads. It points very natural. The gunsmith at the DW factory has one and is  his personal protection favorite.

No major parts interchange with other DW revolvers....If you don't want it please share the shop with us. I  need another one especially at a give away price !  gtdw

My 738 is the " 2016 DWF Calender girl month of October"

If I ran into that locally for that price, I'd jump on it. Very little thinking involved except a quick search on average prices etc.

Pete, Barrels and shrouds are different. Wrench is also smaller diameter. Only the shorty barrel for the 738 was ever produced

If it's still there you need to pick that baby up! That's the best price I've seen on them in several years.

If I came across that in my local, I'd sell something else to get it.

HUM, reminds me [a little] of my BG38 +P, 5 shot and ironically cyl. rotates CW, unlike most smiffs.

If so inclined, I bet I know someone who could make a 4" or 6" ba for that !! big-grin EWK

Very good condition for a stainless. Probably comparable to a Smith mod  60, s(stainless version of the 36) which I pocket carry here in FL…it was not designed for +Ps.  It's your money so I'm going to tell you to go buy it!
