Took my new to me stainless 744 to my gun club today. I got it with both a ported and non-ported barrel. After reading the input from you gents and thinking of my past experience with my S&W 29-3 I decided to use the non-ported barrel. As you would all expect, the gun performed flawlessly. It shot very accurately once I adjusted the windage slightly. I was especially impressed with the smoothness of the trigger in single action. Not quite as nice as my finely tuned 1911 but quite nice for a factory revolver. I was pleased with the front sight but would rather the rear have a white outline of the u-notch in the rear sight. Very happy with my purchase and feel this fine piece of American craftsmanship will do me just fine for the rest of my life. It will certainly be one for my boys to fight over after my demise.
Thanks to all who have served our great country! Give till it hurts...they did!

My new Guide's Choice holster rig is due to arrive within a couple weeks. I'll take some photos with it since everyone on the forum has already seen a 744. In the mean time here's some of my goodies...
DW Valor with Hogue Magrip grip/mainspring housing kit with built in magwell. I have these on all my 1911s.
S&W 29-3 with 10 5/8" silhouette barrel
