Finally found a 744 locally on Wednesday. It came with Hogue and original grips. The previous owner was unable to remove the shroud and had damaged the nut slightly so it was priced right.
I removed the sight and soaked the barrel end in Corrosion X overnight.
After a few cycles of heat gun, snowbank, heat gun, snowbank I put it in the vice, clamped Eric's tool on and after a few raps with a rubber mallet it loosened right up. The barrel is un-ported but the inside of the shroud was pretty dirty. I would say it had been used at one time with a ported barrel and hadn't been cleaned well.
Here's a few pics with the EWK RH shroud I been saving for this occasion.
