My early Palmer 744 with 8VH barrel shroud seems to be shooting left. With the original rear sight, the blade kept moving back and forth at the farthest right position, but was close to on. At longer distance (100 yds), I was still way left though. So I put a Ruger rear sight on it as well as a Warren One Hole sight blade and I can now center the gun, but the sight is waaaaay right still; the rear sight set screw that controls how far the blade is over is like 4-5 threads out of the sight! Next step is to put my 44 8V barrel on it to see if it is the frame or the barrel/shroud. Anyone else find this problem? I think I read some of the Palmer frames may not have been machined true; is this something that DW in Norwich can fix?

Just a thought, are you sure that your barrel shroud is indexing properly to the frame? Maybe check the roll pin in the frame that aligns the shroud, and the hole in the shroud that matches up with that pin.
Your plan to switch out B/A's makes sense, I would try the barrel and shroud separately on both guns and see if the problem follows any individual barrel, shroud, or combination.
At a guess, I think it is unlikely that DW will do much for you on a Palmer gun, but you just never know!
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Put my 8" blued barrel on the 744, shot straight. Put the SS barrel on the blued 44 frame, blued barrel nut didn't want to go on the threads, I had to use the SS nut that came with the barrel and it shot to the left, so it's the barrel or the nut. It seems that the barrel nut threads aren't right (not aligned with bore axis?) or were cross threaded at some point in time. EWK to the rescue with a new SS 8" barrel and barrel nut!

Have them check the threads on the muzzle end with another barrel nut. I tried my blued barrel nut on the SS barrel when I put that on my blued 44; the threads were so messed up, the blued barrel nut would lock up and actually tighten the barrel against the .006" shim and the EKW pilot would hit the rifling and get shaved partially on one side of the barrel. The SS barrel nut fit the threads perfectly, so it seems that the barrel and barrel nut were made to fit together, but they make the barrel shoot left when installed on either of the 2 frames. The Blued barrel and blued nut shot straight on both guns in the blued or SS Shroud. Now I know it's not the frame, so I can start getting different barrel lengths/shrouds and also get the shrouds D&T'd for my scope mounts finally!
