Anyone out there willing to give a guess as to the value of a dan wesson 745 .45 Colt revolver might be.  It is new in box and with a 6 and 8 inch VH barrels, box, tools, etc.  Found this on gunbroker and was wondering if the current bit of $1500 is too much.  I need to know quick as this auction is over in about 23 hours.

Here is the link and I know it says 4" and 6" but if you look at the pictures they are definitely longer.   http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=337404809

thanks

If its not too much, its on the boarder line.  I've been watching that auction and I can't justify that kind of money for it.  Its worth what somebody is willing to pay for it.  If you 'need' one for a collection and have the funds available, go for it.  JMHO.

Not so many 745's floating around out there, if you have the $$$ and the urge, go for it.

I'm a "low budget" shooter, I'd be buying a couple of guns and a bunch of reloading stuff for $1500+, but I'm not much of a large frame fan.

That's a beautiful gun, and pretty desirable.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Agree w/ Scorpio; it's borderline.  I paid 1200 for my 745 because I NEEDED it to fill a hole.  I paid 700 for my 45.  So yes, it's worth it if you're willing to pay for it.  Individual call...

So it appears that the price tag today is $2400!!!  it was an interesting bid on gunBroker and possibly my last. Seems like the was some unrated person out there bidding up to the max but curiously never winning.... The person did it twice in this auction. Let me show you the numbers and you decide... Again, my last time on the site.

$2700! This one just demonstrates again that it is difficult to forecast prices for Dan Wessons, especially unusual or premium ones. Most of us would never approach that figure but apparently at least 2 guys did. Maybe some cool-pics of it will show up here.

The 745 is one of the models that's difficult to obtain, especially with an extra matching BA. That one looks like it was in good shape, however I couldn't justify spending that kind of money personally...not at this point in time, anyway.

Also, looking at the top photo, it does appear that the seller has the BA lengths listed correctly, as a 6" & 8" assembly.

Nice looking Dan, fairly rare model in what the seller clams as only fired at factory (I asked him a lot of questions, I was going to bid on this). Two nice barrel assemblies.

Looking at the bid reference you posted, the person you question first bid matched your, as far as running it up to the limit, looks like this had some more legs. the bidder you talk about placed a bid of 2675, which the winning bidder's proxy bid went to 2700, we don't know if that was wpevey highest bid or not. Unless your him and know this, and if you won this please post some pic's of the beauty when you get it home.

Remember, it takes two bids to raise the price.

Me 2700 is too much to spend on this, but that's just my opinion. We may never see one for sale in this shape again.

No, I bailed out after it went over $1500.  I would have liked to have had the 745 to match a 741 that I picked up a few weeks back.  This is a 4 and 6 inch VH.  The 4" appeared to have had some leading that took quite a bit of work to clean up, disassembled her via the help here on the forums (thanks a lot for thatsmile), purchased a new barrel wrench thanks to EWK, new houge grip, and will take it out again today.  She is not my first as I had a model 15 in my earlier days, sold her in some weak moment, and now that I am older trying to right some past wrongs.  Glad to be a new member on the forums and hope to contribute.

Nice looking 741, I have to say that is my favorite cal. Dan Wesson handgun. They are not real common, but not as rare as the 45 colt. Thanks for the pics.

I took a "shot" at it but was left in the dust. At an NRA banquet last night I talked with the seller and he was very pleased with the sale. He had not yet seen the final price so I had good news for him. He may have more offerings down the road.

WOW!  That's a lot of $'s but I wouldn't take that for mine but it was my DW Holy Grail!  This and my 722 which was my first DW purchase are priceless to me (and it should be to all of you guys as well since this site would not exist had it not been for that purchase!)

dwf

Thanks again to Wayne for selling it to me!  Since purchasing it I have added the case and VH6 to the collection.

The 45 is truely a holy grail of DW's and the few that I've seen at auction fetch Colt collectable prices.  I'm happy with my 357max and also wish I'd never sold my original Monson model 15.cool-picsworship
