You know guys, this forum is a fine example of the freedoms we all have as a result of the sacrifices made by many brave soldiers in many wars over the past 80+ years. Keep up the open dialogue so we all are better informed about our second amendment right to bear arms. Have a good Memorial Day and keep up the good communications.

Wayne- The process you refer to is sintering, about which I AM NOT an expert. It is essentially a molding process that uses powdered metal that is heated to less than it's melting point and pressure or injection molded. I think that most of the sintered parts in DW's were internal, some of which were later changed to bar stock. I know that sintered metals are used in bearings, and sintering is not limited to metals, but is used in ceramics and plastics as well.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Ryan, thanks for giving us more info & background on your .22...and for not taking too much offense for us bashing your coating job. We DW aficionados tend to be a little picky when it comes to new ideas tried on a DW.
I assume the choice to powdercoat it probably due to the lesser cost involved. That's a bummer that the cylinder didn't want to cooperate.
I was going to comment earlier that I liked the slots in the shroud, but I was at work & just posted quickly. The slots look a bit oversized for the gun...but I bet if whoever did those, had used one size smaller cutting bit, it would look a lot more proportionate to the rest of the gun.
Anyway, good luck with your auction. Here's the link, for anyone interested.

Yep the powder coating was chosen because I powder coat many of my contender and encore barrels and they turn out terrific. Also once the PC has a chance to fully harden its tough as nails and very chip or abrasion resistant aswell as completely rust proof. At first I did not know if the slots we factory or not, I kinda figured they were not and talking with the previous owner confirmed that he had a gunsmith/machinest do it for a Kewl factor more then anything. Like I said I go throguh alot of guns. Im not a dealer or anything like that It just the only way I can buy new guns is to sell the old. Its just a vicious cycle, But one I never tire from..If a gun is in pristine shape I either post on the SP forum or maybe here or the PA forum, but when its a item Im not 100% proud of it goes to the masses on auction...But like I say this gun is 110% mechanical and really a good shooter and the rest of the PC job looks good with the exception of the clyinder..I should have tried to redo the cylin before selling it but I just said ah heck, I;ll let someone else fix it if they desire it so...Cheers, Ryan

Ryan, Sorry I brought the Attention to the 22. No need to defend work here. I have a couple of small frame shrouds that I am going to mill slots in. I do not want to hold up all that weight and get my hot burning 22 loads to heat up the barrell . Although , thanks to IHMSA , I will put the slots as close to factory as possible. But I will pass on the powder coat. I'm a deep blue or SS kind of guy.

Gemini... I think you can order the shrouds from Keith with out the heavy under lug.. ( am I correct ? ).. also why not try and talk Keith into doing the slots ??
So does anyone think the slots help the whole cooling thing ? I mean it would stand to reason wouldn't it ? but does anyone know for sure ? ( like SMF or IHMA ?)

To my best knowledge the slots were primarily created to make the weight classes in IHMSA, cooling may have been a side benefit. IHMSA 80x80 shoots steel and could probably correct me if I am misguided there.
As far as a new shroud with slots, I doubt that you will get that at CZ anymore. The custom .375 Shroud I just had built I desired to have slots in, but Keith stated they no longer set up the machining to do that. You could always ask, but that is what I was told.

SMF is correct, the sole purpose of the slots was to allow the gun to make the IHMSA 4 pound weight limit. Better cooling of the barrel is a side benefit.
