I have a 744 with a 6VH.  I love the balance, handling, great gun.  I am looking to purchase a longer barrel for hunting and will scope the shroud.  The decision I have is whether to purchase an 8VH or 10VH.  The longer barrel won't help sight radius since I'm scoping it, however I'll probably squeeze 75 or so FPS out.   Not a big deal but a bit more downrange power.

Does anyone have experience with the 2?  My concern is the balance with the 10.  Seems like it would be extremely muzzle heavy.  Unfortunately I can't test it until after I purchase it.

Any advice from someone with experience with both would be appreciated.

Thanks, Orion

I have both.  But my 8" shroud does not have a scope mounted on it.  The 10" is rather muzzle heavy, and the mount does sit on the shroud.  There are, or have been available, mounts that place the scope on top the revolver's frame.  You would get better balance this way but are commited to having a scope all the time.

My 10" setup has a B&L 2x scope.  With the right hand loads, I can shoot out the bulls eye (off the sand bags) all day long at 50 yards.  Anything beyond 50 yds and I use my Marlin .357 levergun.

Thanks for the info.  Pretty much confirmed my suspiscions.  I guess I'll probably go with the 8".  That 10 just looks way too much!   Shooting from the sandbag isn't an issue, but using it as a hunting rig just didn't look all that desirable.  Don't really want to scope the frame of the gun, as you say, I'd be stuck with the scope all the time, unless I remove it and I don't want to go there.   Thanks for the info... just the type of advice I was seeking.

I have a 10"VH with a scope and 8"VH for my 445 and the 8" never seems to get put on the gun any more.
