When I bought my first M40, my friends thought I was crazy too. I wound up owning three and one of those "friends" thought enough of them to liberate them from my possession. They were never recovered because I couldn't prove he was the one that did it.
Very few M40's were anything less than extremely accurate. They had to be as the primary use for them was long-range silhouette shooting.

My first post here. I have a 40V8S as well, however mine is blue. I do however have a 3 digit serial number 44V6 in the bright blue, which is actually (at least it looks like it) an electroless nickle finish. I have never found another shorud in this finish and had a regular blued VH8 bead blasted and nicle plated by a local shop to try and match it, but they only came close, you can see the difference. I've only ever seen early models with this finish, and have no idea how long DW used it. I foolishly passed on an engraved version back in '79 or 80 with this finish, I'm still annoyed with myself. - dan

Kauko,
The .357 Supermags became the winning-est revolver in IHMSA from the day they were introduced. They are very accurate, and unless your gun is damaged, it should be a good shooter. Use 180-200 grain bullets in yours, stay away from the lighter weights.
My serial number is less than 300 away from yours, bought new in December 1986. Yours might be an early 1987 version.
