Hello everyone!

I'm brand new to the forum and am looking forward to some exciting Dan Wesson talk!  Several years back I purchased a Dan Wesson .357 magnum from an older gentleman who was not so kind to this firearm (its rough to say the least). Anyway years have passed and I have pulled it from the vault with a new passion and want to have the firearm restored.  I'm curious if anyone knows how I could get some information on its age? I've tried to track down a place to run the serial number with no luck.

Also, the firearm is a bit unique as it has had some engraving done by Gary Reeder in Arizona.  It has the inscription of "Kodiak Hunter" on the barrel and a portrait of a bear on the left side.  From my research I've seen that Gary Reeder will rechamber a Dan Wesson and call it a Kodiak Hunter, but this one is still chambered in .357 magnum.

Anyway, I am posting some pre-restoration photos here.  If anyone has some insight on the gun or what it may have been through for the last...god knows how many years...I would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks everyone!

Interesting firearm you have.  The frame certainly looks restorable but that shroud has some pretty deep pits in it.  No info. from this side regarding the history of it but I'll be curious to see an "after restore" pic.

Restored it will be a gem! It looks like an early example judging by the serial and old type cylinder stop but the more informed gents in here will know better.

The gun dates to 1979 or 1980. I think you should clean it up inside and out and use it as a shooter. I don't think it's value warrents a restoration. If you need a new barrel,  it is a small matter. This is just my opinion and may be not the case. If you get a new shroud you could engrave it " Alaska Malemute Hunter". Lol. The bear looks like my old dog. Have you checked the bore? It could be a larger caliber? Maybe 41. If that is the case it is special.
