The blems are pits in the steel. What could cause this? This wouldn't be a cast frame, would it? Or is this defective steel? Any thoughts?

Dan Wesson frames are cast so they are casting pits, what I don't understand is why they don't or didn't just clean them up all the way instead of selling them as blems.
