At the end of last summer i was at the range with my .445sm having fun shooting up a box of 300gr Hornady bullets i bought and loaded, one of them fealt a little different when i fired it but the gun kept on working so i quickly forgot about it.
Later that month i was about to swap barrels to the 6″ but i couldent get the barrelnut to unscrew on my 8″ barrel, i ended up with a stripped nut with no chanse of removing it.
Well i fired a few drums more before the fall came and with it the bad weather and the guns was tucked away for the winter.
A week ago a friend at the gunclubb showed me his new 44magnum and some 267gr leadbullets he made for it and i got curious as i have not used all lead bullets in my DW so he gave me a set to try, i loaded up easy with 25gr VV N110 behind the bullets and it worked like a charm so i loaded up a set with 27gr VV N110 and still worked just fine with a nice and easy recoil. Back home i sat down to check the barrel for lead and noticed something i should have seen last summer, i had a bulge in my barrel just behind the barrelnut and when i look closely i could se it on the shroud to.
Now i understod why i couldent remove my barrel and i had to do something that fealth so wrong, i had to use a hacksaw to cut the shroud and barrel in two.
Now im happy i still have my 6″ barrel but still im a bit sad.
Its not an easy task to import a barrel to Sweden and its not a common gun over here.
The good part is that i found this forum in my hunt for a new barrel and shroud, its very informative.
Thank you.

Oh that hurts!
Well I think if you had found our site sooner you may have been able to avoid the hacksaw. Here's some instructions for your very issue.

That's a real bummer that it ruined your barrel & shroud. I guess the bright side is that it didn't blow up on you, or something. I have yet to see a gun that has done that & I'm amazed that it shot even halfway normally after that.
At least you have an extra barrel, to continue to play with.
Yeah i was lucky i had that extra barrel. 🙂
Im impressed that i still had good groupings while shoting with the 8" barrel.
I dont think that would have worked for me Jody as the barrel expanded and took the Shroud with it in the expansion so they are pretty much grown together if you understand what i mean.
If the nut get stuck again i will try that method though as it seems like a good way to resolve the stuck nut problem. 🙂

I feel your pain. In 1982, almost the exat same thing happend to my 15-2. As yours did, it actually still shot well. I also had to cut the shroud/barrel combo. No way it was coming off.
If it is any consolation, 25+ years later, I still have it and still shoot it. No problems and I have since built it up a four barrel set.
Thank you for the welcome.
I could use some help finding a barrel and shroud but its no panic.
Did Dan Wesson make a 4" barrel and shroud for the .445?
kpm
I guessed i wasnt the first with this. 🙂
I hope to find a few barrels for this one to.

I can imagine how that must feel, my heart would have sunk. Having to cut the shroud and barrel had to be painful too. I'm wondering if the piece of barrel you have left would be worth making into a 4″ barrel. Glad to hear you had a second barrel.
Btw here is a link to CZ USA who now handle Dan Wesson parts:

All of the parts they have are Not listed on their website. Shoot them an email and they will get back to you within a couple of days.

Shootout
You can call this number in the US for parts 607-336-1174. Their fax number in the US is 607-336-2730. I'm sorry but I don't think there's a number for DW revolver parts in Sweden.
Yes they do make 4 inch barrels. They only come in VH style. That's the same style you have.
Complete barrel assemblies (barrel and shroud) are:
The 8 inch part is: BA 445 VH8 – $268.00 USD
The 4 inch part is: BA 445 VH4 – $179.00 USD
I think that you can contact them at this address also:
Dan Wesson
5169 Route 12
Norwich, NY 13815
I hope that this helps.
Thanks.
That helps alot.
I was thinking about making the leftovers to a shorter barrel but i dont have the tools.
A 4" barrel would have been real fun to shot and at 179 usd it is very interesting for sure. Lots of paperwork but i think it will be worth it.
Do they sell that coloured thingy for the frontsights to? My gun didnt have any when i bought it.

If you're talking about these on Ebay:
There's other auctions on Ebay too with these sight blades. People seem to be paying a good price for them there but it's possible CZ USA has some too.

Welcome shootout - man, what a story.
We have a parts list from DW in Norwich posted in the "Parts and Service" forum.
https://www.danwessonforum.com/?page_id=3/parts-and-service/2008-dan-wesson-parts-price-list
Shrouds are all listed as VH, but if you request one they will make a V configuration for a couple more bucks.
I will be much more vigilant about identifying squibs after reading your story!!
I think i found the reason today.
Every spring i go to the range to pick up bullets from the ground and check them for rifling and if there are any damage on the bullets. The snow stop the bullet very fast and does not damage the bullet at all.
This time i found several bullets from the same batch made by Archipelago in Finland and they all had the same failure and there must have been parts of another bullet in the pipe when had my 8" barrel killed.
I hope you can se on the picture whats wrong with them as i dont know how to explain it in english.
I posted the picture on my webbsite: http://www.provskjutet.se

From the picture it appears the jacket is totally stripped off where it contacts the rifling. I've only seen that in 30 06 rifle rounds that were sized a few thousandth too large for the bore but engaged in the loose chamber of a M1 Garand. the 1st sounded different when fired so we fired no more, took down and found heavy jacket residue in the last 1/3 of the bore, it had also plugged the gas vent so it wouldn't have cycled. We pulled another of the rounds and found them larger than the surplus ammo we had been firing. This was many years ago and I don't remember the exact difference in size, but we measured all the 06 bullets we had at the time and the bad ones were the overall largest.
