Hello,  I'm brand new with a question.  I recently traded a guitar for a Dan Wesson 357 Mag

revolver. it's in great shape until you try to pull the hammer back. It has an uncommonly hard pull ( I have to use two thumbs to cock it ).  How would I go about weakening the pull ?

     Thanks Guys.    mark996owl

First Welcometo the DWF Sign. Cocking should not be that hard. First I suggest a really good cleaning and lube job. Since this will include removing the grip, pay attention to the grip screw depth as it can cause main spring problems. Although I haven't heard of this one yet. Others will be along soon with more knowledge than I. I am confident we can get you fixed up eventually. It's what we do here.Smile

I'm sure others will jump in but my first question would be to ask if the barrel gap has been checked you should have .004 to .006 around the cylinder face will need to check on all cylinder ports. Is the problem present when the cylinder is opened, if so them you may need a good cleaning. Welcomeoccasion

Welcome.  This is the right place to get your Dan going.

The link below gives you a pretty good idea of how to take it apart and put it back together so it works.  These guns are very easy to work on and great shooters.

ditto on the cleaning, but I think pops2 probably has it nailed.  The cylinder is most likely dragging on the barrel.Welcome

Yep, I'd check barrel gap first, then check to see if the cylinder is binding anywhere else--crud under the star can do it also.  Definately don't cock it if it is that hard, you'll bend parts.

I'll add my agreement to the consensus here, and a hearty Welcome to the DWF Sign.  This is the place to find knowledgeable assistance for your DW.  How about some Cool Pics of your new toy.

When I first got my M15 Pistol Pac, it felt like the knurling on the hammer would "cheese grater" the skin off my thumb when cocking. Then I swung the cylinder open & cocked it...it was like butter!Surprised  The problem was gunk (more like sludge) between the crane & the center hole of the cylinder...the cylinder would hardly rotate on the crane, when trying to just spin it by hand.

I immediately took it apart & gave it a good scrubbing, followed by some light lube on the parts that contact & rub against each other. Night & day difference, I tell ya!Laugh

By the way, Welcomeaboard! Show us someCool Pics of your new trade, if you have any.Cool
