Nickel is a plating, and you want to take care with any abrasives. I also believe it is advised to NOT use any ammonium based cleaners or lead removal products/cloths.
Does it look anything like this:
This is a 14-2 (#7128x) that I am almost certain was refinished at some point in time. I'd love to find out it's Factory nickel, but I think it's unlikely.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Very nice one! if it shoots as good as it looks, I'd say you did great on that one!
I'm no expert, but I think nickel plated models are fairly rare, especially that old, I don't see them pop up much. Some of the more knowledgable guys could tell you more.
You got a good deal on that one I think.

Dang, that's a factory nickel Porkchop! I'll say you did REALLY good on that price, way to go! The grip isn't original of course, but who cares?
Yesterday when you posted your s/n, I must have been half asleep. This whole time I was thinking it was a 14-2...your s/n was easy, I should have caught that. So yeah...your gun was probably made around the 1972 area. I think in a couple more years, there may be enough of a database in the Registry, to easily pick most production dates.
