Hi,
I have a 15-2VH Class A 1/4 engraved revolver that is "almost unfired" it was purchased new by a collector here in Australia and I was lucky enough to acquire it a coupleof years ago. I have a couple of Dan's which I use reguarly in competition. I have not used the 15-2 as it is far too good to use as a range gun and here in Australia we are legally bound to keep all our firearms locked in a safe so it remains tucked away except for the rare occasion I liberate it for a quick admiration session. I am thinking of selling it to buy another gun that I can use for matches without being concerned with inflicting wear marks from holsters etc.
I am interested in what the revolver may be worth to a Dan collector, it comes with the original box etc. Also has any member had experience on importing a firearm from overseas and how difficult it may be to do this should a DW person wish to own this revolver.
I have not posted it for sale because it may be wasting everyone's time if it is too difficult to send to the USA. I have plenty of pics etc that I can upload if anyone is interested.
Thank You
Mike
Factory engraved Dan Wessons are extremely rare or folks that have them don't sell them. The engraved 15-2s are very distinctive and have 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and full versions. I have one with 50% coverage IIRC. It is buried in the safe. It came with a plexiglass case with gold colored name plate. There are no records or providence to be had since all records disappeared into a black hole named BATF. However, I have a sales brochure from that period with pictures of the engraving available and mine is without a doubt factory. If you post a picture I could render my opinion. They were undoubtedly shipped in the standard styrofoam container with cardboard sleeve.
I cannot help you with the shipping question. I suspect it would be more trouble and expense than it is worth. They show up for sale so infrequently it is impossible to be sure of a value but I would guess 1/4 "A" engraving would sell for 1500 to 2000 if ANIB. A fully engraved model recently sold and it appeared to be very close to factory design but it had a cute little Dragon on the sideplate. Not factory.
If it was mine I would try to find a buyer in Australia or keep it. I think you are limited to a certain number of handguns. I feel for you. I don't know what I would do if I had to divest 99% of my firearms. 🙄

HI Ole Dog,
Thanks for the response,I'm pretty sure you responded tome when I discovered this gun for sale. It is most definately a factory engraving, I have uploaded some pics in the "small revolver" section for you to take a look at. The problem with selling here in Australia is the lack of knowledge of DW guns, the folks that know about them are mostly hard core shooters who face the same restrictions as me and they shoot whatever they own. Oddly enough there is no written rule about how many handguns you can own in my state but there is a "soft" number of around 15 before the Police take a special interest. ALL our handguns must be registered and justified for use in specific competitions, we are unable to own them "just because we like 'em" unless you are a registered collector and they are not allowed to use the firearms kept under a collectors licence.
My thought was a US Dan person would appreciate and value it more than a local but I also guessed that importing a handgun from Australia may cause issues. Anyhow I sure do like admiring the beautiful work DW did with these revolvers and when I compare to my Smiths it is tempting to sell the S&W's and start using the 15 at the range
Take Care

Pics please. If you are a member, by all means submit a pic to the 2023 DWF calendar contest. I rarely get to see engraved DWs

Hey Mike, first off, that gun is a beauty, from what I can see in your photos.
To me, it is unimaginable that you have to tell the government how many guns you own. Although I admit there are many states in this country that do require gun registration, and we are getting closer to an overall Marxist rule every day...but...I just happen to live in a state that (so far) isn't so crazy. If the day ever comes here where I have to register my guns...well, guess what, most of those were lost to a "boating accident" years ago...
Have you checked into what sort of fees there are to ship guns from your country? Maybe they will give you a "thanks for ridding AUS of guns" shipping break? Yeah, probably far fetched, buuutt... Hehe

Hi Charger Fan,
I am currently checking into how and what it would cost to ship to the US, I have at least one Dan fan very interested in taking it home with him. It is a pain in the butt complying with the regulations down here but at least we can still shoot just about anything we want albiet restricted to Police approved ranges.
Cheers
Mike
CF, I too live in a great State for firearms ownership. No registration, no limits, conceal carry shall issue, no waiting period for handguns with a conceal carry permit. No county or municipality can pass a law more stringent than the State law, which is you can't shoot over a house or across a road..
My wife and I made the maximum donation to my Sheriffs reelection 2 elections ago and he has been unopposed then and since. The Sheriff and Undersheriff and wives are coming to a big Gator /Georgia football party at my house tomorrow. I will have 4 Sheriffs, two Undersheriffs and the head of the Florida Sheriffs association coming. My BIL is nicknamed America's Sheriff. He is retired undefeated. THERE WILL BE NO RED FLAG LAWS IN MY FUTURE. LOL. Lastly, we have DeSantis protecting our rights. Maybe he will one day protect all Americans rights.
