I'll post better pics when my roommate gets back with my camera tomorrow but here's the crappy one from my iPod.
It's a Monson with the SN 12244X which puts it in 1977 I think…
Finish is about 85-90% (minor surface rust) which is acceptable. Judging from where the finish is worn or rusted and how dinged up the grip is I would say that this was a hunting gun and/or carry gun before falling into that Pawn shop's hands.
All in all, a worthwhile purchase. Can't wait to get her to the range!
If I had 20 dollars for every time I've been held at knifepoint, I wouldn't have been stabbed by that guy for not having any money.

I do need a barrel wrench (and a whole myriad of other accessories) but for now I just detail stripped and cleaned it as though it were fixed barrel.
Probably the easiest detail strip I've ever done.
Didn't even have to organize the parts on the table. They're all pretty distinct.

A couple of better pictures. Unfortunately, my battery died right after taking them and I can't find the charge cable.
That white stuff coming out of the grip in the lower picture is a cleaning patch. The interior of the grip is incredibly worn and it doesn't fit very well and the patch helps hold it in place. I was going to replace it anyway.

Found my charge cable. I decided to take pictures of the worst of the wear.
The Cylinder is kind of rusty, but it's all surface rust with no pitting.
The grip is in pretty poor condition and, as I said before, it doesn't fit very well.
There is noticable pitting on the rear of the frame. This gun was handled often.
There are scratches and such, but that's pretty common. The ones on the side plate are obviously from the ejector rod. Minor surface rust where the bluing has worn. This gun was used or kept in a high moisture environment.
Then just regular shot with my two other handguns.

I just finished an abbreviated version of the Average Joe tune-up and I have to say "Wow!"
It's amazing what a little Brasso, oil, and elbow grease can do to smooth up the action of these babies.
