I'm looking into getting my 44 mag and several barrels/shrouds refinished and am looking for the most durable finish possible in both resistance to blemishes as well as corrosion. Currently im debating between Hard Chrome (Mahovsky Metalife) and Robar's NP3. Any thoughts?
I have a 14-2 in what I think is hard chrome. It is gorgeous, durable, and easy to clean. I bought it thinking it was stainless at a gun show. There is only one flaw, the common scratch on the sideplate from the extractor star. I wish that had been polished out before being chromed. Soooo, have the prep done thoroughly because it sure shows afterward. Please let us know how much it cost and who did it. I would not do it to a mint gun unless it was going to be used in a corrosive environment. Lastly , get all the shrouds you want, nuts too because it may not match up again. I only have one barrel. I might make it a glove box gun. Just my opinion but you asked .

Here is a nice article on Hard Chrome and EN. They're both nice finishes and about the best you'll find out there. They are both far superior to any of the "coatings" out there such as Cerakote, Duracoat, etc., which are basically painted on finishes.
