I have a Dan Wesson .44 Magnum with 8" barrel; and have wanted a "snubbie" barrel for it ever since I traded into it. EWKArms has blue 2-1/2" barrels in .44 Magnum so I bought one, a barrel wrench, and shim...
How many of you have fired your .44 Magnums with a 2-1/2" barrel? I was going to say has any of you ever...but I know some of you have.
Am I crazy; I think that double hearing protection and probably tinted safety glasses (so I don't get blinded by the flash!) will be needed. I'll bring some .44 Special as well. I have no intentions of carrying it concealed but can you imagine the shock and awe?
On a more serious note - just how snug does the barrel have to be on the shim - just enough to be able to slip it in and out or should there be a bit of drag? Thanks...

2cd. what Mike said. Don't force the shim in. After a small amount of times you will dispence with the shim and eyeball the gap. The smaller the barrel gap the better but it can build up powder on the cylinder face or the cylinder can expand after a bit of use. It may have to be loosened. I suspect you will not be having an extended range session with a 21/2" ba.. A Hough rubber grip may be nice .

I have a 2" 44 mag barrel from EWK and I have shot it several times, its actually quite fun! It does have a loud report and there is quite a bit of fire from the muzzle but it is very controllable and accurate. It will most certainly draw a good bit of attention at the range the first time you fire it :). If you have a heavy jacket or are a large guy, you could carry this configuration as a CCW if you were so inclined, stopping power would be almost unmatched.
Its not this bad however.

If a man designed it, and a man built it, then a man can fix it.
