I spotted a 357 Dan on GB high polished SS. 6" bbl. DW case and

tools and all paperwork. Bidding started at $500 or buy now

$750. I used the buy now option

I already own (1) SS 357  (1) 357 blue and (2) 44mag in blue

When purchased rec'd it was a 357 reg. SS, nice condition

I had email Keith at DW/CZ who advised me if I did want a high

polished (chrome) assortment  of bbls., that that would b obtainable thru

DW.  Upset that the seller misrepresented  the listing, I contacted him, explained my feelings to which he replied, well now u have

a nice collectible revolver.

I have not given feedback yet  on this seller at GB

Any thoughts...?

thanks

Here's the auction :http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=258009420

The pics are not much but the gun is a little more shine than some

of the stainless ones I've have seen. No I would not have called

it polished SS but that's just me , also the seller didn't say it

was "High polish" and I think that was what you were really after.

I feel your pain brother, this is one of those "grey" area's of the

internet gun auction's. For what it's worth the gun looks like new

from here.

What the add said

"I have a like new Dan Wesson 6 inch polished stainless steel model#715 357 magnum purchased in 1987 in like new condition for sale. I have the original box and all paperwork with the barrel removal tool. I fired about 12 rounds through it and with the 6 inch barrel it's very accurate in 100 yards."

I think with out mention of chrome the guy did an ok job of describing! The case and extras are always great to have. Would I have described as he did, probably not.  You got a nice looking 715 with extras. price some what high though if you hang on to it it will catch up and soon.  Heck you never know if you don't like it put it back up and see what it will do!

Sorry that you didn't get what you thought it should be.  As said internet buys are a stretch at times!

Well the ad listed "polished stainless steel with original box" I'm not sure what box you got with this but the one in the pic's is a newer style Dan Wesson 1911 box which they started using just in the past few years. Not sure where these sellers get their info from. We as buyers need to do our homework.

Well, seeing as I have my share of high polish  SS DW's --- yours is not.  Case I do not believe to be original to gun -- that case is a few years old, and may have been for a Semi auto (flip the foam over and check for outlines).  I make DW labels, I'm sure other guys do too... I've never seen the "S" on a label in front of the serial number on a DW revolver label.  Does the serial number match the gun?

A lot of sellers only know what they have been told, or what the find on the web.  I correct sellers weekly when i see bad info posted on auction sites.

You have to remember he's on the seller side of the fence--gotta make it appealing to prospective buyers who may not be as educated as we are on the DWF.

Still a nice DW laugh

Late to the game...

Chrome = Nickle plated over carbon steel then chromed (shiney)

Stainless Steel = Stainless gun... no plating, semi brushed look

(High) polish Stainless Steel = Stainless gun that has been polished .. no plating (shiney)

The "polish" statement was unfortunate, but the expectation of a chromed gun was also unrealistic.

Soap Box, Ballot Box, Ammo Box

in that order.

4 Monson Model 15's

1 Palmer FB 15

1 Rossi 357 Model 92 (lever)

1 CZ 75B

This was the easiest pic for me to grab -- high polish 14-2... almost like plating.  No brush marks in the SS

1) That 715 is not polished, it's very clean, but not polished

2) The S/N matches 1987, the case does not. The label looks authentic, but I think it has been put on a (much) later case. I own SDO21787 (bought used, but only 377 numbers earlier than yours), label looks like yours, but it is on the more appropriate Styrofoam box with cardboard sleeve. The blue Owners Manual does not look right either, and the plastic wrench is correct, but maybe not in a plastic bag with a bore brush, especially since the period correct paper envelope is there as well

3) $750 is too much for a Monson 715 that is merely very clean, the description of polished is subject to interpretation, I find it to be misleading from the pictures I see.

IMHO-You got hosed, sorry. That gun is no more collectible than any other 1987 Monson in very good condition.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

When they went to the double letters, the labels were pre-printed with the "S"...

The only factory label I've seen so far, for a factory high polished gun has been a Norwich label. It's shown here as "HG1", for High Gloss.

Here's the gun...pretty darn shiny!cool drool

It was an option, right from the beginning with the D11 & W12 Porkchop. So was factory engraving, by the way, in the early days. I've got a pic somewhere of an early brochure, but can't find it this morning.embarassed So here's a 14 box label instead.smile

Image Enlarger

And a nickle D11…

Image Enlarger

The nickle DW's sure don't seem to have been as popular as the nickle guns from other makers, I assume because of price? Here's a (presumably factory) 15-2 PP that lingered on GB for quite a while. It finally sold for $1500 last November.

I disagree ! Hosed is me paying $200 a month for electric every

month because I live outside the grid.

You TWO44 on the other hand may have paid a Benjamin or so

too much today but that fine firearm will be there next month and the

month after that.

Thanks guys for the lesson. I should have asked u guys before buying
