Just bought a Dan Wesson revolver and thought one of the guys may be able to help approximate its age. It's marked Dan Wesson Arms 357 magnum ctg on the barrel. On the frame also marked Dan Wesson Arms ,Monson Mass. serial number s/00375X. Iread already it's probably older than 1983 Was hoping to try to pin it down a little closer Can't wait to get to the range and shoot it! Thanks ahead for any help

Is s/n on side plate? does it have adjustable rear sight? That early of a serial should be nickel. front sights with the color marked ramp started in 76'. I dont believe stainless started til the early 80's

That 'S' preceding the number denotes Stainless steel, so the gun should be factory stainless, not nickel. The serial number registry seems to indicate that the 715 stainless began around 1982.

I think there was first just Sxxxxxx, then S/ xxxxxx, then SD xxxxxx and finally 357 S xxxxxx. Starting in 1982 they only made a couple of thousand with just the S. All of this is just supposition on my part based on suspect observations. If someone can get the BATF to release their records , they will acquire "foremost authority" status and forever more be cited as the last word in all things Dan Wesson!!!
