...get the itch to go Deer Hunting this time of year?

When I notice the days getting shorter and the nights getting a little cooler I can feel hunting season coming closer and have a hard time not thinking about it.

Last year, I put up the scoped handcannons and took an older Dan Wesson .357 8" VH out in the field.

Never saw anything I really had to shoot at, but my nephew decided to blaze away at a fork-horn he kicked up.

I thought he may have wounded it, so I fired the .357. The 180 grain bullet dropped it on the spot.

There is just something about Autumn Hardwoods, Deer Hunting and Dan Wesson's. Smile

I've been checking scopes and checking the holdover for different distances with the iron sighters and the bow, keeps me from getting too antsy when I see them grazing in the fields or crossing the road in front of me.

I got that itch.  I have two deer with iron sighted revolvers, but last year... well I guess deer fever must have got the best of me because I missed Mad.  Should have been a done deal, I walked around hunting a trail for almost an hour in disbelief.  I am ready for this year, I am trying optics out for the first time.  Great topic!

I just purchased my deer tag.  It opens Oct 10th here, so it is really close.  I'm taking a first time hunter this year, so we have been getting read for a few weeks now.  I love deer hunting, but upland is as much fun.  That opens the 15th of Sept here and dove season starts the 1st of Sept.  It's my favorite time of year.  Hunting, Fishing and Football.  This will be my first year hunting with a handgun.  that's only if i can get completely comfortable shooting a 9 inch plate at about 35-40 yds.  If i can't, I will put it off until next year and use the trusty Savage 270WSM.

Great to here guys but it's still 100+degrees in the shade down here where I am so I haven't caught the itch yet. Although the first morning I walk out of the house and that cool fall air catches me I will be pawing the ground and rubbing my head against a tree. Still have a few weeks of the dog days to go yet though.
