Hi gang !
I would be VERY interested in a thorogh lesson from IHMSA80X80, or another experienced competitor, in maybe gettin' started in IHMSA shoots. It sounds like a hoot ! It also sounds like where these revolvers "came into the light". I've owned all the big three: SW/Colt/Ruger, and I've NEVER handled a better engineered or finished revolver ! I may not have gone back far enough in "general subjects" yet, but I haven't seen this subject adressed.
I mean from showin' up at a club. What should we expect/bring ? Is there a novice/bonehead class ? Do we have to join ?
I have both Clovis, CA and Modesto,CA With match schedules remaining for this year. Both of them 2-3 driving hours from me.
Anybody ?

Here's an excellent article that IHMSA80x80 recently wrote on the Silhouette subject...

I'm sure he'll be glad to answer any questions you may have, beyond the article.

I would be more than "happy" to help out in any way I can. That article should give you most of what you need to get started. Silhouette shooting IS a hoot, you will really enjoy it. You are correct, the Dan Wesson really came into it's own with this game, especially the SuperMags.
To answer your basic questions...the only thing you NEED to bring are eye and ear protection. You can bring your own guns and gear to get started. Even if you do, the shooters there are super friendly and helpful...within no time, you will be offered their guns and ammo to give it a try and they will assist you learning the ropes. You do not have to join anything for awhile.
Watch a little, get the feel for things, ask questions. It is really a very simple game, despite the fact you may seem overwhelmed with all the activity. Pick one shooter, watch what he does for a bit, don't worry about rules, they will help you with that. Basically, you shoot one shot at each target, left to right, and you either knock it down or you miss.
Get to those matches! If you hook up with the Harris gang, they will have you in stitches in no time. Jim Harris, Scott Mann, Mike Dewey...see if they are there. Tell them I sent ya and go have fun!
After you've read that article, let me know if you have any other questions.
