Have any of you ever sent a stainless DW off to get coated in DLC black? I see Kimber offers their K6 revolvers in the coating so that's as close as I can estimate what it'll look like.
A couple years ago I polished a stainless Glock slide and then had it ALTIN coated (similar process to DLC) and it looked just like smokey chrome but it was a finger print magnet. I'm tempted to just leave the stainless bead blasted and then coat it black.
I'm just nervous as I don't really know how it'll turn out.
What is the 80's Monson made 715's made from? I presume they are stainless but anyone know the type of stainless and the Rockwell hardness? I tested the side plate and it came out in the teens which is really low so I'm not sure.

At work we have a $100,000 automated polishing machine. It works great but I'm scared to put the 715 in it. The process is pretty indiscriminate of where it polishes and may round over some of the edges I'd like to keep square. I've found polished guns become horrible finger print magnets too. That's why I keep coming back to the dlc finish

One man's custom work is another man's poison. I am fairly new to collecting firearms but I quickly learned that as far as collectability goes, factory stock condition gets top dollar. Customizing diminishes value. On the other hand, those that use a firearm for work, defense or sport are more concerned with performance.

I too love stainless and decided to polish a 715. Love the result but I don't recommend doing it yourself. Next time I will send it to a professional.Wow, that is a real beauty right there! You did that yourself?
Yep, I did. Learned a lot along the way - many hours. But it shoots great! Unlikely that I will ever sell it. Hopefully my son or grandson will like it.
