Sounds like something I would do. A few thoughts, A magnet, a sharp ice pick /awl, Or if it is a small frame, force a wooden dowel or similar in the barrel and unscrew the barrel from the frame. Good luck

Heat the barrel & shroud with a hair dryer set to HOT & HIGH. This will loosen the tension a bit as the metal expands.
Now get a small piece of rubber. Cut to shape of your palm. Push down hard while turning to loosen the nut. There are even "jar opening mats" sold in supermarkets.
Maybe an eraser will work as well or even better?

Well, Shirley the nut is still proud of the shroud. All you need is maybe a little penetrating oil for lube, maybe the "jar opening mat" mentioned above or something similar and a flat piece of metal, plastic, wood, what have you so you can keep the rubber parallel to the nut. Push hard and turn. Lefty loosey. <running and ducking>

While changing barrels I accidentally put the barrel nut on backwards and now it's stuck! Short of going to the gunsmith is there anything I can do to remedy this? Thanks for your help and apologies for being dumb!
Guess what! Your answer maybe in the FAQ's tab under maintenance.

I can't understand how the nut was screwed on left handed.
Is it possible it was fitted correct and now you're trying to
remove it the wrong way?
Smith.
