I have a heavy lug 6" 44 my old one was a heavy lug 6" as well  . I've always thought that a heavy lug 6"  is a little muzzle heavy, not quite as quick handling as I would like .

This is why I intend to acquire a short lug 6" barrel although the 4" heavy lug looks like it might be a good bet also .

I'v never even seen any other DW's in person except for the one's I own /have owned so I would like to know your experiences .

Thank You

I prefer the 6" heavy vent lug. The extra weight helps tame recoil a bit more, making the gun more pleasant to shoot.

I agree.  The VH6 is my favorite though sometimes I put the VH8 on it just for a change and possibly better accuracy at longer distances (or better accuracy at shorter distances, since I'm a terrible shot Laugh).

yeah the heavier barrels reduce felt recoil but I'm not much bothered by that . I'd like it a little lighter for plinking , which is about all I do !

I plink with my 6" VH .41 mag all the time...one of my favorite plinkers. Even my wife likes it.

I hunt with a scoped 8" barrel and sometimes with the 9 1/2" on my model 40, but I also like plinking with the 6" barrel and am considering getting a 4" just to try it and have a complete set.  It's amazing how much lighter it is with the shorter barrel.

rob- this is not a real scientific observation, but I owned my 15-2 for almost 30 years and never had anything on it except the original 6". Once I put a 4" on, I was amazed with the balance and feel of it, it just felt right to me. I concentrate to shoot the 6", I instinctively shoot the 4", and at ranges up to 25 yards, there's very little difference in the results

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

This subject is very interesting as I have almost exclusively always shot 8" barrels.  I do have some of the 4" and 6" for the model 15 and shot the 6" and really liked it.  I must try the 4" out.  I do have a few different barrels coming for the 414 SM and I plan to shoot them.

Believe it or not; they actually made the 15" barrel for the model 40.  You would have to have a bipod to use it.  I actually fired the model 15 with a 15" barrel at the gun club I belonged to in Fl..  A member was trying to sell a DW with the 15" barrel, I expressed an interest and he let me fire it.  It was a Hoot to fire but almost painful to hold on point.  I thought he wanted too much for it then, but now I could buy a few pac's for what the barrel goes for alone.  Gotta get the 4" now and try it...Must get more barrels...
