A buddy of mine ran short of holiday cash and sold me his DW 357 Magnum, with all sorts of extras for $200 yesterday, The barrel nut on the installed 4″ barrel has galled, the castle nut part has completely rolled and the wrench cannot gain purchase. I'm including several pictures to show (hopefully) what the issue is, I would greatly appreciate any input from you knowledgeable folks on how to remove the nut without destroying the barrel/shroud assembly. I have ordered a 2½” barrel/shroud assembly from CZUSA/Dan Wesson and had them include an extra barrel nut.
Here's everything I bought yesterday
Welcome to the forum!
Here is a link to a page on how to remove a stuck barrel which should help. You got an awsome deal for $200!

A friend bought an "abused" DW 715 a year or so ago, it had some scratches and the previous owner had messed up the nut a little bit, and we had the same problem you're having. He tore up the nut and the factory wrench, trying to get the nut off. We tried a set or junky needlenose pliers locked it place with vise grips that we filed a little to get them thin enough to fit, but we just couldn't get a "bite", so I took a small punch and put some "dimples" in the nut, and it grabbed enough the nut noved a little bit, and then let go. The nut was just about ready to crack apart anyway, so it was a good thing for my friend to want to get his "new" 715 apart to see what was going on inside it, as the nut surely would have cracked in two on the first shot. A new nut and ebaying a new wrench, he was all set.

Wish I had read through this post 6 months ago. I wasted the nut and a 2.5" barrel taking tring to take off the barrel with an old style 2 piece wrench. Would have saved me some aggravation and money.
I've got a new style wrench now but still need to replace the barrel insert.
I had a stuck nut on a DW .44. I tried the all thread method but couldn't get it to move. So I clamped the barrl in the vice muzzle up after letting the nut soak in pentrating oil for a couple of hours and used a 1/16 inch punch and a few sharp taps from a hammer to break it loose. Just have to be careful not to get into the shround or barrel threads. i did screw up the nut which is unfortunate. A new nut is $9 plus $9 shipping.
